Hi - I am hoping any of you familiar with the Consortium could help me out. I will be applying in about 1-2 years and I had some general questions about admissions.
I graduated 3 years ago with a low GPA (< 3.00), However, I went back to school a year after to build an alternate transcript with 10 credits and earned a 3.5 gpa. I have been employed as an HR Analyst at a Top 50 employer where I have been working to implement diversity initiatives within my company and I also sit on a newly adopted diversity and campus council.
I am worried that my GPA will make me an instant ding at any school I apply to and would like to know if there are any ways to help improve my chances? I have yet to write the gmat but am planning on doing so by the end of the year. I also work in Toronto but I have dual citizenship between Canada and the US and I am planning on returning to the tri-state area post-mba.
Any insight you folks can offer would be greatly appreciated, i.e. which schools might be more the empathetic with a lower gpa?
Thanks,
A high GMAT can set off a low GPA but nothing is guaranteed. Anyway, what's done is done and there is not much you can do about your undergrad GPA and taking more courses is probably overkill. What courses did you take? You need to make sure you have some accounting, economics, and calculus courses somewhere in your transcript. Again, even if so, there are no guarantees.
If I were you I'd focus on the GMAT right now. Don't take yourself out of the running because you think your GPA is too low.
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the advice - my courses were specialized in HR because that's the career path I decided to get into and will continue after an mba. (HR/Human Capital Consulting is what I want to get into) I did take Financial and Managerial accounting and received an A, but I did not take economics or calc.
So essentially - I should concentrate on the GMAT is what you're saying? Does the consortium publish stats of applicants who have been accepted through their organization or is that something I have to inquire about from the individual school?
Thanks again.
