Forum Addict,

No offense, but you can be such a douchebag. I have seen you be a jerk on this forum to people you do not even know. Sometimes I wonder if you just think you are being or are trying to be funny. Really, most of the time it is just down right offensive the things you said to people. I have been a lurker for a long time so maybe I am out of line for just now jumping in to say something, but seriously you are the one who is out of line most of the time. I am not sure if you are aware of the way you come across (at least on the internet) but I really urge you to reflect how you the way you say things effects other people. Brother, I really don't mean this to piss you off although I am sure you are going to come after me. I mean no ill-will, I'm just hoping some honest feedback will guide you on a path to self improvement. None of us are perfect, myself included, and this might be one area of yourself to work on.

I second that. If a person's bold enough to habitually go out of their way to disrespect others then it's reasonable to call said person out for doing so. Don't feel bad, GetOutofHere. We're all adults and what you said was both honest and needed.

ok, ok, I'll tone it down a bit. I apologize, but I have little patience for cultural ignorance. Cubans are not black. Of course there's anything wrong about being black, obviously. Its just that most Cubans I know are white. It's not "most likely" that if you are Cuban then you are black. The carribbean includes other countries, but I never casted my net that wide with my initial comment.

Vannbj, getoutofhere!

I'm really sorry if I offended you. Would you like a cookie sweetheart? That's me being nice. Let me know when you want me to revert to douchebag mode.

Wow forumaddict, I have no idea where this anger is coming from. I just rarely meet people with the same Russian/Cuban background, so it was cool to see that. We never mentioned if we were half black-Cuban (I am) or of Spanish heritage. And I have lived in Cuba and was back there in May of 2010, so I am well aware of the cultural heritage of Cubans. Anyways, this is all irrelevant, you just shouldn't be so angry at people for absolutely no reason and assume that they are ignorant. And how exactly are we making the Consortium look bad? I got a fellowship at Cornell, and was accepted at Yale and UCLA. Obviously I can't be that stupid and ignorant. Sorry if you didn't have the same outcome.

The better question is how did you get to Cuba? Did you get permission? I know I didn't give you permission. I might have to turn you in.

Hi - I am hoping any of you familiar with the Consortium could help me out. I will be applying in about 1-2 years and I had some general questions about admissions.

I graduated 3 years ago with a low GPA (< 3.00), However, I went back to school a year after to build an alternate transcript with 10 credits and earned a 3.5 gpa. I have been employed as an HR Analyst at a Top 50 employer where I have been working to implement diversity initiatives within my company and I also sit on a newly adopted diversity and campus council.

I am worried that my GPA will make me an instant ding at any school I apply to and would like to know if there are any ways to help improve my chances? I have yet to write the gmat but am planning on doing so by the end of the year. I also work in Toronto but I have dual citizenship between Canada and the US and I am planning on returning to the tri-state area post-mba.

Any insight you folks can offer would be greatly appreciated, i.e. which schools might be more the empathetic with a lower gpa?

Thanks,

Thanks,

A high GMAT can set off a low GPA but nothing is guaranteed. Anyway, what's done is done and there is not much you can do about your undergrad GPA and taking more courses is probably overkill. What courses did you take? You need to make sure you have some accounting, economics, and calculus courses somewhere in your transcript. Again, even if so, there are no guarantees.

If I were you I'd focus on the GMAT right now. Don't take yourself out of the running because you think your GPA is too low.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the advice - my courses were specialized in HR because that's the career path I decided to get into and will continue after an mba. (HR/Human Capital Consulting is what I want to get into) I did take Financial and Managerial accounting and received an A, but I did not take economics or calc.

So essentially - I should concentrate on the GMAT is what you're saying? Does the consortium publish stats of applicants who have been accepted through their organization or is that something I have to inquire about from the individual school?

Thanks again.

Each school will say to look at its class profile to determine competitiveness.

The averages for Consortium applicants can be found on page 11

Here's the mission statement from the consortium website:

--
The mission of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, an alliance of leading American business schools and some of our country’s top corporations, is to enhance diversity in business education and leadership by helping to reduce the serious underrepresentation of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans in both our member schools’ enrollments and the ranks of management. We believe this mission can be achieved by recruiting for graduate business education qualified U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents who can demonstrate a commitment to the Consortium’s mission and can best assist the Consortium in pursuing this mission.
--

You do know what "Hispanic" refers to right? If you're going to jump down someones throat for ignorance, you might want to be fully informed yourself. Someone from Cuba has just as much a right to be a consortium fellowship as you do for being black. In fact, so does a white person who shows a 100% commitment to the mission of the consortium. So, please stop making us (black people) look bad with your ignorance.

1) You'll have to make me. I was here first. :)
2) What are you schizophrenic? How do you apologize to someone and insult them at the same time and then act like you ever left "douchebag mode"?

Checked a box and clicked a button. BUT If you have personal relationships with the adcoms then you may want to send an email thanking them for their help in the process but you chose another program.

Thanks, greentea! I found where to "click the box" for Yale, but can't find it for Emory.... If anyone knows how to accept/reject online for Goizueta, pls let me know.

So for the most part, my consortium process is over. Dinged at all my c-schools and WL at Yale. I was also WL at W and admitted to MIT. I will submit an update letter to Yale but I'm not holding my breathe. Congrats to all the admits, and good luck to all the WL and reapplicants!
