Thanks for the info--so I guess I can't access the admitted site till my binder arrives.

Is there a site though with information on the USC Marshall admit weekend schedule (to get an idea of what things are planned if I make the trek back out to L.A.?)

CyberC1
They create unique logins for the admitted site. Everything on the site is the same as what you got in the Admit binder... unfortunately there isn't much other information besides the Discussion Forum, which is kind of weak at the moment.

calisnoopy
I got the admit call and my status is updated online when I log into my USC application but I never got an email or any other notification about the USC Admit weekend on April 8th/9th or a link with the site/portal for admitted students (like other MBA programs have once they have accepted you).

Does anyone know of a link for admitted USC Marshall students for Class of 2013 or more details on the April 8th/9th USC Admit weekend?

My interviewer who called gave me a quick heads up on the April 8th/9th weekend and said he knew it was just around the corner but was hoping I'd come meet other fellow Marshall students.

Hi Calisnoopy,
If I understand from my packet, we don't get a code for a week after the binder arrives, so it looks likes we may not get it in time. I just got the binder, so if you need me to PM you the schedule, let me know. It looks like it's 2pm-8pm Friday April 8th and 8am-9pm April 9th. It's pretty much a bunch of panels, a tour, a case presentation, and some dinners. Looks similar to other admit weekend schedules I've seen.

Calisnoopy,

Likewise - I can send you the pdfs if you want. Just PM me. I'm sure you can just call up the admissions office too. They've been really nice when I've called for random stuff. You're in already, what's the worse they could say (besides this is necessary info)?

hi, socalscool, thanks for your information, i am wondering how much scholarship i will get from the admit package, if there's no scholarship, i will be hesitating whether accept the admit or not.

How did Marshall deliver the official offer package to you ? by DHL or something? How long did it take you to receieve the package since you got the admit call/email?
Thanks again~
Sapphire, It took 2 days for me to get the package after the email (i am in LA). It was sent via FedEx
hi,socalscool.

I am still waiting for the package and being curious about how much scholarship i will get from the package.
If there's no scholarship in it ,maybe i will decline it...-.-

Well I hope you get the scholarship. Any reasons why you wont consider USC without scholarship? Do you have something else lined up?

Also, would love to hear the thoughts of people on USC for consulting as well as finance. So far, I have heard mixed reviews for consulting, i.e. the opportunities are there, but you have to work pretty hard for them. I heard that perhaps its more challenging then that other school across town, especially for top bracket consulting firms. Would love to know people's thoughts and links to any resources. Thanks

I'm similarly interested in the consulting question. socalscool, please share if you find anything else around on this topic. The employment report at USC doesn't seem to be too promising for consulting, but I do know some USC MBA grads who are employed at McKinsey.

Sure CyberC1, will share whatever I discover. Would love to know how your acquaintances scored McKinsey. Was it school assisted or self initiated? Hoping that will get some more information on the admit weekend. They asked me to write what concentration I am interested in in the RSVP form. Hopefully they will connect me with some 2nd year student with similar goals.

I have researched both USC and UCLA extensively - they are both not great for consulting. Of the big consulting firms BCG is the only one that recruits actively at UCLA and does not do it at USC (McK does not do it at both places). There might be some boutique consulting firms that recruit at one school and do not at the other. Overall, UCLA is better for consulting but not head and shoulders better and your chances of getting into a top tier consulting firm from either school are not great. For finance, UCLA is better.

The graduate I know went through the MBA Enterprise Corps post-graduation and ended up at McKinsey afterward. Pretty cool route and its something that I'm hoping to do after b-school also. I believe it was self-initiated (and honestly that seemed to be what a lot of graduates & current students are telling me already re: internships & jobs).

You'll get your logins for the online site a little less than a week after receiving the admit binder. Activity on their discussion forum seems low at the moment, I guess it's because a lot of folks haven't received their logins yet.

Thanks SuitUp. I have heard the same thing. Now that admissions situation has become clearer, I have been seriously considering whether to pursue consulting in USC and try to climb a steep hill or modify my goals a little bit and try to capitalize on the schools strength and pursue something in marketing or maybe in finance. I like all these fields (consulting better than most though ) and even though it would be a little deviation from what I wanted earlier, it might be the right thing to do if the primary objective is pretty much a lost cause. Lots of thinking to do i guess..

USC CAN get you in consulting if that's what you want to do. My point is that it is very tough to get in the big 3 (McK, BCG, Bain) at both UCLA and USC but you have a good shot landing a gig at Deloitte, Booz, AT Kearny, etc. graduating from either of those two.

From my visit at SC, the students did mention recruiting being one of the weaker points of the school. They didn't give too much detail but it seems like you will have to work a little harder at your own recruitment but if you do, you will get what you want.

This is correct. I think this is why they keep emphasizing the network thing more. I get the feeling from talking with students & alumni that the on-campus recruiting isn't going to be as beneficial as the "get yourself out there to network" way of getting a job. In fact several of the students I talked to were more along the lines of "surprisingly I got my internship through on-campus recruiting." The Trojan family has folks across a lot of consulting firms and I haven't run into a Trojan who's not willing to chat and assist yet.

Hehe, that's kind of funny because I got the same message from my visit at UCLA. The students I talked to attributed the school's recent slip in the rankings to the sub-par performance of their career center. And for what is worth the % of job offers obtained through school-facilitated activities is higher at USC. At the end of the day, no matter which school you choose, you have to be prepared to do the legwork.

I'm just saying this as someone who went to USC/Marshall for undergrad so MBA program is likely going to be completely different but overall, the career services at USC is kind of disorganized for whatever reason. The network is great as a talking point in SoCal to use to find your own way and make connections; good luck trying to go through any school-sponsored events or online portals to get leads, etc., at least from my experience with them.

Again, their MBA program will hopefully be better so don't worry. And you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who went to SC who ended up not liking it so I am not trying to bash them; just my experience as an SC alum who lives in LA who has looked for jobs in the area. Alas, I didn't even apply to Marshall (need to leave CA) but congrats to everyone joining the Trojan family!
