Congratulations to all the admits so far.

Good luck to others who are still waiting for admits and invites.

Hopefully, tomorrow is another day of phone calls, etc.

I was thinking about posting a thread about this, but I'll just ask here first. I've got a small scholarship at tuck, and I'm probably gonna go there unless SOM makes a compelling scholarship offer. I've heard that in law school admissions some schools will "negotiate" with you on the $$$. IE: youre in at school A w/ $$, then you tell school B that you're in at school A w/ $$ and will go to B if you get more $$$.

I've never heard of this w/ bschools, but I figure it's worth a shot given that I have nothing to lose (I think). Any thoughts?

I don't have personal experience with this, but I think it depends on the school. I've heard interviews with Cornell's head of admissions and he says that it's a business transaction and if you get a scholarship somewhere else to tell them because they might want to woo you. On the other hand, if the statistic I've seen for Yale financial assistance is true (20-something % of students get scholarships) then I suspect that they are very selective and you probably wouldn't get anywhere.

If it's only $ and not $$$ then go with whichever one feels right for you personally.

I talked to quite a few R1 admits and none of them had received a scholarship offer. One person tried to negotiate with Yale based on an offer they had from another top school with no success. I think it is totally worth a shot, they may very well value you more than that other person and offer you something, but their scholarship offers are very selective. I know other schools do negotiate and also have the option on the decline offer menu to indicate whether you are declining for financial reasons in which case they would get back in touch with you, but I have a feeling Yale is not one of those.

It seemed like the calls all occured within an 18- or 20-hour window and ended around noon yesterday. I think the calls yesterday were the ones they didn't get to the night before. Looks like it will be a long weekend for those of us still waiting.

Just got an interview invite from Yale.

Since the invite came so late, I know that it'll be a long shot but I'm going to miss 100% of the shots that I don't take.

You have as much of a shot as any other interviewee- there was someone that was asked to interview on the deadline of round one and he went on to be admitted several weeks later.

If anything, I would think that adcom either couldn't find someone with your background/demographic info, or they did and the candidate didn't make the the cut- but that's purely my own speculation
