I posted a question like this in my blog and most people said they'd go to their dream school no matter what the cost. But I think the mentality of Consortium applicants is different from the average population (for obvious reasons). It would be beneficial to distinguish which schools are offering fellowships on merit vs. ranking vs. fit.

Those are the three common decision factors I keep hearing as to why someone is awarded a fellowship.

I'm not sure what your post MBA goals are Senator, but you seem to have enough options to filter down to an optimal choice - a school you love that gives you money. Our future successes aren't guaranteed because of an MBA, so I wouldn't take NO money and fit the entire bill myself..... but you only have one chance to have this potentially life enhancing experience, and I would think you want to have that at a place your heart rests most comfortably.... for 2 years.

I could be naive, but I don't see how lives are monumentally changed differently from the 6th or 8th ranked school to the 1st (maybe expect for the speed one gets into P.E./V.C.), so I think once you crack the top 10 threshold your heart should trump your head...... but I did hear that the rich kids at the wealthier schools plan some off-tha-chain student trips, so some scholarship money could def help ease that pain.

Long story short... if you like Tuck most, go to Tuck. Unless they ain't talkin' about NO money, chuck deuce and head to Kellogg.

I'm early. 2013 intake applicant lurker, but wanted to pose this question. I'm a Hispanic male looking to apply consortium, but am worried about mission compliance. Not that I'm against (or not gung-ho on) the mission, but my past does not reek of it. I spent some time teaching under-privileged youth classical music in college and post-college, largely a minority crowd, and actually founded this organization that went out to two junior high schools, but I would not say I could win any Cesar Chavez lifetime achievement awards. And my program did little, I would guess, to advance minorities in management. Am I better off applying normally? Do I meet the consortium bar?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Is this a joke.... or are you just extremely humble?..... ABSOLUTELY

Some people apply through the Consortium on the premise that they took their minority grandmother to church one Easter Sunday five years ago... but you actually started a program that benefits people. That's Awesome! Don't downplay your efforts.

Just a quick reminder to all to keep your profiles updated! We want to make sure we are tracking statistics accurately especially as second Rounders are starting to interview.

Also, after an interview is complete please let us know and if you'd like, volunteer to be an interview captain to assist others that come after you.

That's all. Good luck to those that have interviews this week!

Decision day is on March 28, 2012.

https://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/MBA/ ... -to-Apply/

It will probably be the last school to announce its decision

Has anyone ever seen a 'class profile' or 'class statistics' for the Consortium, I'm trying to handicap my chances but it's hard to tell how competitive of an applicant I am because cgsm doesn't release those stats for obvious reasons. I understand that they wouldn't want to let on that a cgsm applicant is any less qualified than a typical applicant but my rebuttal is just because I may not have 750 GMAT and 3.6 from an ivy doesn't mean i am less qualified.... anyway it reminds me of this article published in forbes this past December entitled 'if i were a poor black kid'. Since I'm new I can't post URLs but google it, it is a good read

P.S. great forum I've learned a lot.

First chart compares total intake from last year vs. just gmatclub this year. The bar graph is just gmatclub cgsm applicants. It's a good barometer of where you fit.

We should also mention that gmat cgsm applicants probably represent the best of the cgsm pool, the average cgsm applicant to Tuck doesn't have anywhere near a 693 GMAT.

Congratulations to everyone invited to Ross. I just had my first interview last Friday and it was at Ross. The school is beautiful and the weather was really mild, around 40 F. I stayed at the Ann Arbor Regent, a decent place for a decent price. The Moroccan restaurant across the street from the hotel was really good.
I arrived 20 minutes before my scheduled time and waited until I got called in. I was interviewed by a 2nd year student with a consulting background. The questions were standard, run me through your resume, why Ross, Why an MBA now, a difficult team environment and how I dealt with it, what were my career interests, and which one was the last book I read.
The key is to try to make the interview into a formal but a relaxed conversation. The difficult questions come from the follow up questions by the interviewer. Pay attention to the question and prepare a strong rebuttal. The follow up questions were challenging, be ready.
The most surprising thing was that after my 45 minute interview, my interviewer walked out and sat at the lobby with me to chat for another 60 minutes. I thought it was great that he wanted to continue chatting and I saw it as a positive sign. After that, I got together with a Consortium first year student and he gave me a tour of the campus. We had lunch together in downtown Ann Arbor. I met a few other Consortium students and I was impressed, this Consortium association really works. I loved the school and I hope I can get the call and the fellowship.

Arzad, great debrief! And thank you for volunteering to be an interview captain!

All, for anyone out there who needs advice/tips/coaching on interviews in the bottom of the first post there is a team of 'interview captains' you can PM for help.

Thanks again arzad for volunteering to help out!

To those that are attending scholarship weekend in Ithaca.... Did Johnson mention anything to you about having to make your deposit earlier than the April 1 deadline since you were being considered for scholarship? I feel like this was mentioned but I was too into the admit itself that it might of went in one ear and out the other.

Any Ross interviewees going to The Consortium day on Feb. 17th?

If so are you staying for the Alfred L. Edwards 36th Annual BBSA Conference?
