Hey Guys,

I thought it would be interesting to see if there are consortium admits out there who are turning down the Consortium Fellowship / Full-Ride to go to a different school. I know some of us are struggling with this tough decision right now. If you can, just say what school(s) offered you the fellowship/full-ride and what school you will (or intend) to attend instead. I will go first;

Received the Fellowship from Yale, but intend to turn it down to go to Booth instead.

Just curious - did you guys get any $$$ at those schools? Just wondering how big cost was as a factor in your decision.

some, but not enough for it to become a factor in my decision. I based my decision purely based on fit and where I felt I could best accomplish my goals.

I might turn down Tuck for Wharton. I'm leaning towards Wharton, but I'm going to go to Tuck's Admit Weekend to give that option full consideration.

Is anyone contemplating turning down the fellowship to Ross or Kenan-Flager? If so why? Debating between both programs (leaning Ross) and having a tough time. At this point, money is not really a factor.

Wow,....thats a heavy decision. Jacksparrow turning down Goizueta for Kellogg is an easy call IMO,..but your call is pretty much a toss up. Full ride at Tuck is no joke,...and the pedigree of Wharton is also no joke! Best of luck in your decision.

Not that this will factor into your decision,...but i'm hoping we become classmates. :)

I am potentially turning down the Ross fellowship and a full ride (non consortium fellowship) from Kenan-Flagler. If I had to attend one of those programs, I would hands down choose Ross. KF is a great school, but Ross is amazing (IMHO). Def feel free to PM me if you want any specifics on my thought process/decision.

I will be turning down my Consortium schools, Ross and Yale (no fellowship, but some $$ and membership) for either Wharton, Kellogg, and Booth (most likely Wharton) while staying on the HBS waitlist.

It's interesting to see so many of the folks here turning down their full tuition CGSM scholarships for higher ranked schools... a few weeks ago, we were all so gung-ho about even getting it :)

AmericanWoman,

More power to you and frankly I'm not surprised. I'm not going to hate too hard on my almost decided future school, but Tuck took a hit this year in the rankings on Forbes and U.S. News - it's also not for everyone. I'll be honest, I'm even having some second thoughts.

The other piece that I've mentioned before is that I'm disappointed in the companies showing up at OP this year and have already come to terms with the fact unless more companies sign up I may not even prep for interviews and just focus on joining the fall/spring recruiting rat race.

Seriously not happy with the selection this year.

^Tuck is an absolutely wonderful place, and money notwithstanding, it's hard to turn it down because I forged a real connection with the people there. I feel like I'm torn between two equally fine lovers.

That's actually a great analogy, similar to how I feel about Tuck & Kellogg.

What did it at Wharton for you?

Senator,

I'm with you, I was disappointed at the quality of employers also but I then talked to a CGSM fellow who told me most of the internship offers that come out of OP are marketing jobs or gen management jobs with less desireable locations like 3M in Minnie or other locations in the mid west. She said that you can make connections with more sought after employers and have first round interviews or informational interviews but it is rare they give internship offers. Lastly she was confident the career fair area will be full come time OP rolls around.

On the subject of turning down offers you gotta make the right decision for you, your future, and your pocket. I remember a high school QB contemplating Stanford vs USC and said it was the most important decision in his life because it would determine his friends, maybe his spouse, and the trajectory for the rest of his life. He went to USC because he 'fit' better there and he thought their football program was better for scouting. He was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft but got kicked out of the league for substance abuse/drug habit that he picked up in college. Good luck to everyone with their choices I highly doubt we'll get kicked out of anywhere for substance abuse but just a interesting cautionary tale that we don't know what we don't know. Or maybe that QB was just really dumb for turning down Stanford!!! and that was just a sign of what was to come. Lol
