Happy Holidays to everyone on the Consortium Forum! Also, I wanted to pass along some friendly tips to Round Two applicants that will help out as you submit apps:
1a. Use Internet Explorer. Don't ask why, but you'll eliminate a lot of headache by using IE.
1b. Pay attention to your word
and character counts on your application. Last thing you want to do is go back and re-edit and edited essay. And yes, spaces equal characters so beware.
2. You can send your tardy recommender a friendly (and pretty official looking reminder) through the Consortium website on the recommender page. It may take some searching around to find; but I found this to be a good way to remind recommenders without sending a message directly from you that could be misconstrued as nagging.
3. If you haven't already sent your official GMAT or GRE scores to Consortium do it sooner rather than later. With people not being around during the holidays you never know how long things will take to go through their system electronically. Why not beat the Jan 5th rush?
4. Double check when you copy and paste and essay, short answer, etc. into the box the end doesn't get chopped off.
5. Before you hit submit, review the printable .pdf copy that will get sent to the actual schools; there will be an option before the final submit prompt. There were numerous errors on mine (including my rankings).
6. Don't freak out if you don't hear back immediately from schools. It takes a while, especially with certain ones.
Finally, a last bit of advice, and by no means do I think I'm an authority on b-school apps, try your hardest to keep your personal statement to two pages without adjusting the formatting. Multiple adcoms and second year reviewers have told me it's an absolute no-no to exceed two pages and/or deviate from formatting... so resist the urge to add that extra sentence in there and try to shrink your font to 11 pt or adjust the margins to .75 on the sides. Application reviewers notice. Not saying it will kill your chances but would you be pleased if someone tried to stretch the guidelines?
Again, happy holidays and good luck to all. We're here to help if anyone has questions/issues.
