I plan to visit McDonough. Does anyone know when the interview dates are for R3 candidates? I'm trying to find out if it's possible to visit before the interview but not sure when those dates are. Anyone?

Hey guys!
I've been accepted to GT with $$. I'm in real confusion in making the right decision. I also have an admit from Olin with $.
Financing is an important aspect, but would like to choose the better school first (if there's a clear edge) and then work out the finances.
From rankings in the last 10-12 years, there's not much to choose between the schools. Also, the placements rates are pretty even.

I feel, in a good year and economy GT opens more opportunities than Olin does. But in a bad time, GT shuts more doors than Olin (and St.Louis). I'm not keen on finance/ibanking, but looking at consulting roles. Being an international student, i'll not be eligible for federal consulting roles that GT placement is known for.

Any inputs, thoughts you guys would share will be helpful.

Thanks!

my knowledge is limited on this and perhaps a student can better answer you but I think for consulting GT is stronger. It's even better if you are interested in sort of government-ish consulting, because being in DC, it has strong connections to politics. I think a major company that recruits there is Booz Allen?

I also think GT is very strong for international business, one of its specialties. It has a great School of Foreign Policy that you can take classes at, and I believe the curriculum requires you to do an international consulting project.

Also in terms of branding, GT is stronger internationally.

I visited GT and really liked the school. To be fair, I don't know much about Olin though.

Oops, i didn't notice that you mention you are not eligible for federal consulting jobs. Not all of them are federal though, I don' tthink?

Yes, not all are federal consulting, but seems like majority of them are.

2012applicant, Can you provide more insight on this?

I know people from my country who have been able to nail internships at SEC and CFTC during their studies at Georgetown. Don't really know what you mean by federal "consulting" though.
So, don't think that there is a nationality handicap at federal institutions (at least at these ones for internships, not sure if there's anything different wrt full-time jobs)... US citizens might be able to shed some more light on this-

I applied to Georgetown for its international reputation and its finance recruiting strength in north east region.I know for fact that a lot of young international elites, especially from asia, attend georgetown grad program.

I cant say much for consulting as I am no longer in the field.

I can't see any reason (other than $, a substantial amount of scholarship etc.) for any international applicant to take any school in Missouri or Indiana over Georgetown.
General (global) reputation, perfect location (professionally) and a lovely place to spend 2 years of your life, wide range of employer base (federal + private + other international institutions like WB, IMF)... What else would you want from an MBA? And I personally loved the fact that they publish the employment stats for international students separately- who else has so much transparency with those numbers?

After having looked at the Employment Stats, I notice one potential caveat; the report does not mention the percentage of the 2010 graduates who are represented in the survey. Other schools often include a number of students who did not respond to the survey. Sometimes these students represent a significant portion of the total grads (10 % or more), distorting the statistics. Also, self-employed and these going back to previous employers are typically excluded from the stats.

If I were to make my decision of school relying in the employment stats heavily, I would first contact the career center to verify the size of "unrepresented" group.

Just my two cents. Good luck to everyone with their applications/decision making.

i have certain doubts regarding the job offer details in the employment profile ( https://students.msb.edu/admissions/empl ... rofile.pdf )

in the first table it mentions 'total graduates'.....now does that mean that it is the full strength of the class ?

i mean does 'total graudates' mean the whole class size of the outgoing batch ?

i am sorry....it does sound a bit like a basic doubt....would be really helpful if someone could throw some light on it....

good point- yet we never know about the self-employed & the ones going back to pre-mba employers. no school ever excludes those from its stats anyway...
And the report clearly says "Total Graduates"- it just does not state the exact number but I guess "total graduates" means "total graduates". (the graduation yield should be pretty close to 100%- needless to say)

However, I agree- it'd be a mistake to rely solely on stats while making a decision on such a complicated and major -once in a lifetime- issue. Yet, as long as the stats make sense wrt your profile and goals- they surely make up a major part of your decision cycle.

Hey guys,

I had applied to all my schools R1 and heard back with good news from two...
I still haven't made my decision and it's killing me...
Can any of you help me with your infinite wisdom on the topic of 'choosing the right school to enroll?

I got into McDonough with some $ (around 30%) and also got into Tepper with no $ (abs. zero).
My focus is in Operations but I am not excluding the chance of switching to Finance, if you know what i mean ;)

Please help out.

Thank you!

So happy to report that I just got an interview invite by email. For reference, I submitted the application a few hours before the deadline on 1/1 and live in the DC area.

Quote:
I am pleased to inform you that the MBA Full-Time Program Admissions Committee would like to invite you to interview on-campus.

The evaluative interview is a required component for admission to our MBA Program and must be completed prior to the decision notification deadline. We encourage you to register to interview as soon as possible.

Given that an earlier email indicated that last year they interviewed over 1200 of the 1652 applicants - I still have a lot of ground to cover. But at least I'm headed in the right direction!
