Thanks for the info 2012! I'm also pursuing investment banking and have been wondering about GT's stats since they don't specify IB in their employment reports. It's good to hear that they place a fair amount of students.

I applied R1 and got the interview invite.. going to DC in two weeks!

Nice, congrats! Feel free to shoot me a PM when you're coming out. If I'm not booked, I would be happy to chat with you about Gtown, ibanking recruiting, or anything else. A beer perhaps.

apparently interview invites sitll going out for R1 until the end... This is coming from the person taking care of interviews so i think it might sound generic but there's probably more reason to hope...

Georgetown put a lot of people on the waitlist, judging from last years thread there were a few people who got in off the WL. It doesnt feel great to not get an invite, but i think there is still time, considering the Jan 15 notification date for R1 and also the following stats:
Gtown will WL you then invite you for an interview in a later round. Of course WL is alo a possibility with an interview.
'I know none of this helps, but G-town is one of the few schools where the WL actually moves and 15-20% of the incoming class! Which has to do with the horrible 37% yield.

Applications (admitted and denied) to the newest class: 1,630
Applicants who were accepted to the most recent class: 42 %
Admitted applicants who enrolled in the newest class: 37 %
Applicants who were re-applicants from prior years: 3 %
Percentage of this year's reapplicants accepted: 30 %
Applicants wait-listed during the last admissions cycle: 451
Wait-listed applicants admitted for the semester to which they applied: 94
Applicant interviews are: By invitation only
Applicants (admitted and denied) who were interviewed: 73 %
Admitted applicants who were interviewed: 100 %

My interview date is approaching, as the adcom travels to my current place of residence, Japan next week. Wish me luck!

From the interview scheduler, I recall seeing that the adcom is interviewing in India during this week. For those Clubbers who conducted interviews, how did it go? If you could share your experience with us, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

congrats to all that got their invites. i have a question on recruiting. i am planning to pursue a career in investment banking and i was wondering if georgetown is a good school for it. is it a target school? do any of you know of the companies that come down to recruit?

Hi,

I am a first year student at Georgetown who is working to break into investment banking. I'm actually knee-deep in the summer associate recruiting process right now, and have been making weekly trips to NYC for networking.

Georgetown does have great relationships with a number of banks. Our strongest relationships are with Wells Fargo Securities and Citi. Current, 2nd-year MSB students secured investment banking internships last year at Barclays, Wells, Citi, JP Morgan, Lazard, Jefferies....even Goldman Sachs. And most of those students were offered full-time positions starting this June. Some students who pursued consulting or other internships were able to land jobs in ibanking as well. I believe that Wells hired the most students (4). All the firms are bullish on the economy and are increasing their internships and hiring for the coming year.

THAT SAID, if you want to go into investment banking, it is never too early to start preparing. While Georgetown is a core school for Wells and some others, we are still a top 25 school, and we are competing against students in top 5-10 schools. You have to be hungry and put in a lot of effort to demonstrate that you are serious about going into banking, that you know what the job is all about, that you know the technicals (for example, how to do a dcf, how to calculate Ke using CAPM, how to unlever a levered beta, etc., and accounting!), and that there is a clear link between your experience and skill set and the role of an associate banker. Some banks like Georgetown because we are more down to earth and collaborative than other schools, and those qualities are a strong fit with the culture of those banks. But some banks lean towards being, well, a bit elitist and seriously type A, and for these banks, Georgetown students likely enter the recruiting process as underdogs.

Hope this helps!

thx for the info! so, is it safe to say that it will take a lot of effort on the student's part to land on of these job? if you can share, can you tell us what ibanking companies come on campus to recruit? from talking to a few gtowners it seems like not many comes do and it is up to the students to use the alumni network to find jobs instead

thx!
