emont - there does seem to something customized for you - I had all hubs and virtually every day on campus available.

srjaidev - 45 of 63 spots in Mumbai/Shanghai are filled, of which 1/3 are in Mumbai (don't know the exact # taken in Mumbai because I'm using find/replace to count)

FallingStar - I'm local :)

108 of 221 Boston slots gone. 17 of 36 gone in NY. 25 of 61 gone in CA. Will do a full tally tonight but each hub page is separate.

Adding the 64 from Europe, less than 450 invitations in total???

Should've appliedi n R1.

"45/63 spots in Mumbai/ Shanghai are filled". It seems like they don't have many spots for Asians.

I didn't mean to say that I thought the invites where sent only to the internationals applicants. I meant to say that the invites were probably sent to those, US locals and internationals, that would need to travel to one of the hub cities to get interviewed.

For instance, I don't expect to see more interviews sent to people needing to go to Paris or London for their interview... bad luck for me, I am in France and no invite... :(

Buddy,

Firstly I hope that this 'username' is not reflecting ur present mood ..... Please change it to 'RisingStar' or something equivalent...... I am sure u are one to many many people around you !!! :)

Second, as far as the relation between the locations and invites are concerned, I think you are reading too much into the whole process. While I can understand ur nervousness, i am reiterating what others have already mentioned before -- the invites are random, only dependent on when ur application has been reviewed by the adcom. Even Dee's blog has words to the same effect. So please remain hopeful like the rest of us !! :P

@ Vanidhar ....
No, I am quite sure that it is not the case ..... The applications must have been reviewed based on the print-outs taken of the essays & other material of urs. Its just luck as to where ur essays land up in the stock pile & who picks it up & when !

Best of luck to all for Today !! :)

how NOT to blow your HBS interview-- some great advice if I must say so myself (it's an interview w. me in Poets & Quants)
https://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/04/how-not-to-blow-your-harvard-interview/

a friend writes, as of last night

I counted the total number of interview slots and, according to my numbers, there are 417 total slots, of which 164 are still available (33 of which are overseas). This is current as of tonight (keeping in mind that a few people have not yet registered for an interview time slot).

Not sure what to make of this, and someone tell me if they HAVE ALREADY TAKEN DOWN FILLED SLOTS, WHICH THEY DO, OTHERWISE, IF YOU ARE IN A FIZZY AND DREAMY MOOD, what this may MEAN, altho I would want confirmation, is that number of invites sent out on Friday, was sorta 350, which I find low, given traffic and my own internal databases, but possible.
Anyway, this will all be moot by this PM, so good luck all. FYI typical number of total interviews given in R2 is 750-800. I just dont believe the 350 number --if anyone is signed up for iview and that slot is no longer there, please report, even tho a bummer to waiters, we like the truth here.

are the applications reviewed in alphabatical order?

Two surveys:
1. Anyone with a last name that begins with [Q to Z] that got an invite last Friday?
2. Anyone applied on the Jan 10th or 11th that got an invite last Friday?

Let's see if there is any truth to either theory. If I were adcom, I would print based on last name or date received.

Any guesses as to the timing of today's invitations? Will it be around noon (like the first batch), or later in the day?

Again, these are the EXACT words from the Director of HBS Admissions (Dee):

"There is no system - or hidden message - to the order in which interview invitations are issued, i.e. no connection whatsoever to the strength of your candidacy, time at which you submitted your application, geography, industry, etc."

Also throw in alphabetical order in there - You are needlessly worrying about order when there is no 'order' for how the applications are reviewed.

Dear XXXXX:

Thank you for your application to Harvard Business School. Your application is now under review.

We've made some important changes to our process this year regarding interview invitations and decision notification that we want to make sure you're aware of as Round 2 progresses:

* We started sending out interview invitations on February 4 and will continue to do so until February 16. Interview invitations will arrive via email.
* On February 16, all candidates not invited to interview will receive either a decision indicating that "we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2013" or an invitation to join our waitlist.
* Decision notification for interviewwed (spelling error?) candidates is on March 29.

For more information, we encourage you to visit the "From the Director" page on our website.

Thank you for your interest in Harvard Business School.

Sincerely,
