any good tips/strategies for HBS interviews? i know the interviewer will have read your entire app so they've likely prepared some pointed questions.
1) KNOW YOUR STORY. Read your essays every day for the two weeks leading up to your interview. Just make sure you understand your motives for all the actions and decisions you made
2) Your interview won't be like anybody else's interview. Unlike alumni interviews, adcom reads your packet carefully. In my case, I was asked questions that I didn't expect to get.
3) Think about the interview from adcom's perspective. If you were on a group panel, and you read your application, what questions would you have? Are you older or younger than the average? Do you have interesting transitions, odd jobs, interesting extracurriculars? Think about any detail that they may want clarification on.
Example: I worked at AMD for 8 years. Rather than being asked about any of my experiences on the job, adcom asked me, "should I buy an AMD computer or an Intel computer?". Why did they ask this? I was caught off guard at first. From their perspective, they saw a highly technical engineer - they wanted to know if I could communicate complex technical thoughts in a non-technical way so I could participate well in our classes.
HBS wants diversity. They want people who can pick an answer, stick with it, and justify their answer. You should be confident enough to speak in front of a class, down to earth and humble, and able to communicate effectively and tell interesting stories.
Hope this helps. If you've made it to the interview - you're in a GREAT position! Good luck.
