Exactly, I'm making that assumption based on the HBS update saying "90% of the class is determined by the end of R2" So it's safe to assume ~800 seats have been filled.

dunno how much of that quote you can take to the bank and use as base for assumptions about 100 openings being left. I think what Dee meant was, "a large chunk of class is already filled" --the 90% was a figure of speech not an actual number.

can some upstanding citizen who was admitted in R2 remind us when deposit is due?
altho not a critical date, that is when they will know fer sure what R2 yield is, altho my guess is, they got
pretty good idea of that now.

also note, a good number of R3 interviews are college seniors, whose numbers do not go into 'this' class, since they will not enter for 2 years.

my revised thinking is total number of r3 interviews will be 50-80, leading to the usual 30-45 offers, a wad of whom could be college seniors. As to how this impacts WL, dunno, but my recall of last year was that number of WL admits post R2 was 10-13 and might have been less, like 8. And WL was bigger. If there is some contra evidence out there, someone please point me to it.

Sandy,

Based on previous posts of WL letters on your blog from last year, about 50 were admitted off a WL in the 200-250 range, 20-25% chance.

Are you saying that the size of the WL is an indication of the number of potential WL admits?

Is there a possibility of more scrutiny in sizing WL this year? After all, about 50 were admitted from R1 WL this year already.

Obscure post on Dee's blog during past summer noted that total WL take last year was 53, which was prob. the final number. What I find troubling is that my sense of how many were off WL rounds 1 and 2 last year, was I think high 40's. 48 comes to mind. Sooo number of WL admits R3 last year was small. If 50 kids already off WL, and last year they took 53 total, dunno, I think you got some idea of what number of WL admits is going to be, maybe not 3 per se, but not 30 either, and not even 20. More like 0-8 is safe bet. If current WL is 100, well, they aint going to run out of WLers--also they will put some R3 kids on WL, as mosiacs, to fill in any last minute 'missing tile' needs.

Saw the blog post, but I think the 53 is for WL after R2 decisions since the May WL letter said that 40 admits had been made in the two weeks before the letter and that there were 10 more to come.

Would it be fair to view the 50 admits from R1 WL as more of R2 pool and independent of the "true" WL?

Thoughts?

Not totally sure of your question, and those WL letters are intentionally fuzzy for a reason

1-Here is what we know: last year, according toyou, they said 40 kids had been taken w. 10 more to come, and they took 13--when those 13 were taken, a bit unclear.
2-last year they took 53 kids. and this year they have already taken 50.
You can view that glass as 13 more-to-come FULL or 3 more-to-come empty.

I've got no more interest in taking a tweezer and laser beam to their previous fuzzy remarks, and building speculative models on that, esp, when it is possble at this pt that

1. No one, not even adcom, knows what is going to happen
2. If you did know, so what???? what could you do about it?

It seems pretty clear if you are on WL at this pt, chances of getting off are NOT GOOD, altho could be as high as
1-9, but I dont think so, I think chances more like 1-15/20 but in either case, DONT COUNT ON IT.

Sandy,

Apologies for the constant questions you are receiving, although I'm sure your responses are very much appreciated.

I have one question, concerning the relationship between WL and R3 applicants, that I was hoping you could help me with.

I understand that several applicants are placed on a WL during/following R2. Are those applicants interviewed in priority to R3 applicants?

Guidance on this point would be very much appreciated.

Regards,
DFB

keep in mind some WLers have had i/vs

i think i read a past post from Sandy on here that WLers without i/v are evaluated together with R3

I applied in Rd 3 and absolutely no news yet. Based on previous comments (i.e. date of interviews etc) I have given up, honestly.

I didnt print what I submitted in my application (the pdf that you get) and I checked two days ago and I still had the option of checking it out and downloading it. I just checked my application status and the whole page has nothing on it except the usual thank youf or your submission status. Can anyone confirm if they can print or see their pdf document on their online application?

No, cant view the application. Update profile is the only option available. Didnt you download the pdf before submission?
