There are 100 WL'ers from R1/R2 + Some more from R3 (another ~20 ppl). At best, 20 people will get off the WL this year.

Based on what? How do you know how many people have been dinged off of the waitlist in the meantime?

Pure speculation. I doubt anyone was knocked off WL since R2 results because no one reported rejection off WL here/HBS didn't report any/Sandy didn't mention anything about WL'ers getting knocked out either. There may have been a few who decided to take their name off the WL, but again just off speculation, that would be an insignificant few.

When was this email from HBS sent out? and to who? R1/R2 waitlisters? I hope it's not a bad sign that I didn't receive this email...

My husband is a R3 applicant and was just waitlisted on the decision date (5/6).... he was crushed but I am still trying to keep his hope up.... are chances pretty bad for waitlisters?

mbahubby, WL chances are very slim. E-mail from HBS says:
Quote:
There will be a lot of movement on our waitlist over these next three weeks. At this time, we anticipate making approximately 15 offers of admission between now and the end of May. This number could increase slightly after May 23, which is the response date for those admitted in Round 3. We expect the majority of our decisions to be made by May 27.

Heading into June, the waitlist will be sized down to approximately 10 people....

There are 100 WL'ers from R1/R2 + Some more from R3 (another ~20 ppl). At best, 20 people will get off the WL this year.

So chances of getting off the waiting list at best is 20/120 = 17% which is only slightly better than applying to HBS among the other 10k people (13%).

I think Sandy hinted at this earlier. Most likely the way they pick off the WL is by 'Tiling' or trying to find the closest matching replacement with the person who was offered admission and did not matriculate.

Best of luck, I'm probably starting my 2nd round of GMAT studying soon! fsaq, I'm gonna try to get on-campus housing ;)

It was sent this morning. Here's the full e-mail:

May 10, 2011

Hello Everyone:

We are actively reviewing our waitlist candidates now and will begin releasing decisions starting next week. Contrary to the calls we received yesterday, we did not admit 20 people from the waitlist last Friday. We have not made any offers to anyone from the waitlist so far this month.

Heading into June, the waitlist will be sized down to approximately 10 people; the waitlist at that time will serve to hold a group of candidates who could be available to matriculate in case last minute (early July) cancellations occur. If we would like to include you in this group, I will contact you.

It is critical to keep your contact information updated through the ApplyYourself system, especially since many of you are traveling now and over the next few weeks.

Thank you for your patience with our process, and please contact my colleague, Dana Scalisi, if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Eileen Chang

I did not get this email either... I'm going out my mind, who knows what anything means...

Have any of the waitlisted applicants here contacted the AdCom? (to say thanks, hi, bye, don't forget about me?)

What's the etiquette for this situation?

I'm an R3 applicant on the waitlist. Good luck to everyone.

my husband did not get that May 10th email either. He just called the school and they forwarded him to someone (Irene I think??). He got her VM and just left a message saying he wanted to make sure that he was on the status email update as he heard an email went out yesterday and he did not receive it. He is hoping the phone call will not hurt him (doesn’t want to ‘bug’ them). He did leave his name….

Nope all is quiet on the western front. Has anyone else heard anything? I think they said they'd begin sending invites out this week so crossing fingers for everyone here!!! Let's hope at least one of us on this board gets in!

There are only 4 or 5 of us R1/R2 and about 3 R3 Waitlisters who are active here. We don't have the best sample size to know. Hopefully Sandy or non-active visitors will chime in if they hear anything too. Over 90% of us will hear back by the 27th, and I'm guessing if I hear then it's a rejection (or as I would like to call it a reapplication) 11 days. Worst case in terms of knowing would be if you're picked as the last 10 on the list, which is good in the way that you're in the top 10 WL'ers, in which case you should def. reapply!

Yes, R3 waitlister...... last email from HBS said that they should have things wrapped up by 5/27. So, waiting for a phone call or email. Haven't had any updates since 5/6 from adcom.
