My apologies if this has already been discussed in this thread (from looking through several posts I couldn't find anything related) but how necessary is the interview invitation in the whole admissions process? In discussing my application experience with a colleague who attended HBS (Class of 2003), she shared her anxiety over not getting an invitation to interview and she called the admissions office to inquire about her application. The admissions office simply confirmed they reviewed her application and didn't have any questions. A few weeks later she was admitted in Round 1 - no interview. Is this unusual?
Based on my colleague's experience, it sounds like HBS doesn't need to interview EVERY admit and I can't find any mention of such an ambition on the HBS admissions website. Has anyone heard anything to the contrary suggesting that not getting an invitation to interview is a kiss of death?
