Don't give up hope until Nov. 3rd! I'm guessing another wave will be coming next Friday too and even possibly some on Monday 10/25 and Monday 11/1

So, I've been getting about 5 e-mails from MIT every day about their various programs, info sessions, etc. It's annoying because my heart stops every time I see a new e-mail in my inbox with "MBA" in the subject line... anyone else having this problem? :)

I'm at work - so I counted up only the Boston (on campus) slots - roughly 41 are open, but that doesn't mean anything because i believe that each time slot lets multiple people register (i.e. there could be 5 or more interviewers for any certain time slot? So who knows, there could actually be 41 * 3 interviewers = 123 slots open in Boston

Plus, slots are being added constantly, so even if 0 remained for a certain region, they'll probably just add more slots anyways. So don't base your hopes solely on open or lack of open slots. 'Around 800 invites' also means that it could be 850 or 860.

Yes - MIT is a bit overwhelming with their email marketing. Must have hired a consultant :P

I will forgive them if they interview me.

Haven't received my hbs invite. Thought that i had a solid app. Even though I'm not a rock star by any measure, I work for big four accounting firm (in audit), 3.9 gpa (state public school), 690 gmat, single-handedly ran family restaurant/ got an excellent review from a local but major newspaper while excelling and working full time last year after to a big loss in our family. Any hope for me still?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEPENDS ON AGE + WORK EX. Fam biz story is nice color but will not flip outcome if basics are off. Big 4 audit is not a favored HBS feeder function (au contrary) and esp. if you are in year 5+, 4 is marginal, and aging, 3 is so-so, 2 is ideal.

Most Big 4 HBS admits start in Big4 and then move on in year 3 to Corp at F.500 (and apply fr. there) or Hedge Fund.

Big 4 is also common career path for minority admits, esp. women, seems like a reserved chair at Stan for the Big 4 minority female every year.

gmat in your case prob not a factor, 3.9 they like, but if you are older and present nerdy, well, looking grim. Looking grim in fact if you are just older and present normal. Keep me posted, and believe me, happy to be tweaked when you post back saying, JUST GOT THE INVITE.

One thought Sandy -- is the acceptance rate higher amongst the applicants who received the first wave of interview invites? That is, we know the overall acceptance rate amongst those who received invites is 50-60%. Is it 70-80% amongst the first wave? I've heard that if you were in the first wave, it's yours to lose i.e. don't screw up the interview and you should have an excellent shot (this is from people at my PE firm, all of them went to HBS). Thoughts?

Is there anybody else out there that is just a high-performing person who grew up in the suburbs in a middle class family that doesn't have either (A) a tragic story to tell or (B) a super wealthy, well-connected family to get them into HBS or (C) a minority status to point to - incessantly?

I don't think HBS cares for life profiles like that...

Didn't grow up in the suburbs, but otherwise I fit the profile.

Me too. 99th percentile stats and work experience, and 0 diversity benefit.

Also, how many of you did NOT succumb to the expense of hiring one of those blood-sucking leeches called Admissions Consultants. Talk about bottom-feeders! Its almost more shameful than the crazy, multi-billion dollar wedding industry!

Edit:
At the end of the day, I firmly believe that if there were no admissions consultants gaming the system and no Kaplan test prep courses, etc. that each class would be a fundamentally different, and better class. People would be admitted on their own merits, not on the manufactured merits of some obnoxious consultant. Their websites alone are enough to make me cringe at the banality of it all.

I'm hoping for Dee to come out with an update on her blog today. we are almost halfway through the invite window, and it would be helpful to get some indication on how many invites are left! Straight from the horse's mouth!

No invite yet. I am an author of a book and presently running my training company for past 8 months. Worked with big 4 in management consulting for 2.5 yrs. GMAT - 730, average GPA. I think problem lies in my over-represented India pool and of-course they take very selected workex from India. Diversity sounds like a myth!

Anyone can please update about spots left in Mumbai? Thanks
