My apologies if this has already been discussed in this thread (from looking through several posts I couldn't find anything related) but how necessary is the interview invitation in the whole admissions process? In discussing my application experience with a colleague who attended HBS (Class of 2003), she shared her anxiety over not getting an invitation to interview and she called the admissions office to inquire about her application. The admissions office simply confirmed they reviewed her application and didn't have any questions. A few weeks later she was admitted in Round 1 - no interview. Is this unusual? Based on my colleague's experience, it sounds like HBS doesn't need to interview EVERY admit and I can't find any mention of such an ambition on the HBS admissions website. Has anyone heard anything to the contrary suggesting that not getting an invitation to interview is a kiss of death?

Back in 2000 (for the class of 2003), interviews used to be handled differently. At one point, they didn't even bother interview. HBS absolutely does interview every admit now.
Does anyone think that when you submitted has anything to do with when they review your application? I hit submit literally 30 minutes before the deadline, so placing my hope on the fact that they haven't gotten that far yet. Thoughts?

See Dee's blog post on 1/12/10 about R2 apps last year: Round 2 Deadline - When to Hit the Submit Button Date: January 12, 2010
Here's another FAQ:
Is there any advantage to being "early" in a given deadline period?
No, not really. We don't begin to read applications until after the application deadline. On the night of January 19, we will begin to print and distribute applications to the Admissions Board. Contrary to lots of speculation, there is absolutely no correlation between when an application is submitted and when, or if, a candidate is invited to interview. Applications are not reviewed in the order in which they are received.
So I would say no, time of submission is not relevant here. The reason I know this is because I was hoping for that explanation too.

Agreed... my hubby also submitted 30 min before the deadline and he got an interview invite last Friday... I don't think when you submitted matters.
