On the AskSandy BW forum, anxiousapplicant posted that she received an invite on Friday (10/22). She described herself as "770 3.8 Ivy Consultant." Under your theory, shouldn't she have received an invite in the first batch?

Bah, beaten with about 30 seconds of research. So what do we have now, 8 business days to go?

Ha trust me you're not the only one struggling to understand the process. Only the adcom knows what happens behind closed doors and all we can do is wait and hope. And yes, the official end to the invite period is Nov. 3, so eight more days of angst ahead.

With possibly little over hundred invites remaining, I think it's highly unikely that they haven't reviewed all applications. I think at this stage they are working on shortlisting the remaining applicants for interviews. Just think about this, the last 5 people they review have stellar profiles, but they just have one slot remaining.. Picking one at that stage would be unfair..

It seems like if they have to agonize over giving you an interview or not, you're probably not going to get in either way.

Since we're wildly speculating without any evidence whatsoever: my guess is there will be a small wave of people, maybe 30-50 by friday of next week and they'll spend the rest of their time figuring out who to waitlist into the next round and who to reject outright (with perhaps a very few invites sprinkled in) with the rest of their time. Remember they not only need to figure out who to invite by Nov. 3, but they also need to figure out who to waitlist. That probably requires a second review of certain files.

You really think many will be waitlisted w/o interview? I'd be surprised if they put too many people on the waitlist before interviewing them. I mean theoretically the interview pool is perceived to be stronger than the non-interview pool, and they aren't accepting 40% of those. Considering the 90% yield HBS has, I'd be really surprised to near that HBS puts many people on the waitlist before interviewing, much less lets them off the waitlist.

Sandy et al -- perhaps you can comment on this? Can we safely assume that its either interview or ding at this point?

I think after this coming week, fewer or as many people will be invited to interview as will be waitlisted without interview (for this round). I only base this on guesswork and how last year went, thinking about the last week or so of the potential interview invitation period. But I readily admit I know as much as the next person.

To Sandy or anyone else with experience

Quoting pembahopeful here:
One thought Sandy -- is the acceptance rate higher amongst the applicants who received the first wave of interview invites? That is, we know the overall acceptance rate amongst those who received invites is 50-60%. Is it 70-80% amongst the first wave? I've heard that if you were in the first wave, it's yours to lose i.e. don't screw up the interview and you should have an excellent shot (this is from people at my PE firm, all of them went to HBS). Thoughts?

Similar stats

770, 3.9 GPA, 4 years WE in education (non profit) with TFA/TFAll. What puzzles me is a got an interview invite two years ago, with a lower GMAT (720), and less significant work results. Has that ever happened to anyone on this board before? Got an invite one year, no invite later on?

Welcome.

It seems that only the ones who have received interview invitation can access the interview system and check the slots.

HBS speculation 2.0

Now for a question that is becoming more pertinent by the hour:

In a week, the last 50 - 100 R1 interview invites will be sent out. Anyone got a view on the following:

1 - Adcom Blog says Nov 3rd will see both ding and WL decisions, this conclusively means that HBS will WL folks that have not been interviewed. Correct?

2 - If we were to work with the following numbers: 4000 R1 apps, 800 interview invites. Of the remaining 3,200 how many folks will be invited to join the WL?

3 - It is probably safe to assume that no decisions re R1 WL will be made until they've seen and "started shaping" the R2 class. Do you guys think this means R1 WL'ers will defacto join the R2 pool in competition for interview invites? Or would they just add the R1 WL'ers to the R2 WL'ers in to the R3 pool? In other words, is the WL just the Adcom taking the liberty to defer you into the next round? or is it a special kind of purgatory that only gets looked at at the very end of the process?
