HBS speculation 2.0

Now for a question that is becoming more pertinent by the hour:

In a week, the last 50 - 100 R1 interview invites will be sent out. Anyone got a view on the following:

1 - Adcom Blog says Nov 3rd will see both ding and WL decisions, this conclusively means that HBS will WL folks that have not been interviewed. Correct?

2 - If we were to work with the following numbers: 4000 R1 apps, 800 interview invites. Of the remaining 3,200 how many folks will be invited to join the WL?

3 - It is probably safe to assume that no decisions re R1 WL will be made until they've seen and "started shaping" the R2 class. Do you guys think this means R1 WL'ers will defacto join the R2 pool in competition for interview invites? Or would they just add the R1 WL'ers to the R2 WL'ers in to the R3 pool? In other words, is the WL just the Adcom taking the liberty to defer you into the next round? or is it a special kind of purgatory that only gets looked at at the very end of the process?

"November 3 - all candidates not invited to interview will receive either a decision indicating that "we are unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2013" or an invitation to join our waitlist

All those invited to join our waitlist are candidates whom we would like to "further consider." Our plan is for waitlisted candidates to receive further consideration in Round Two. We expect all to receive a final decision with the Round Two notification date in late March. We completely understand if such a candidate would elect to withdraw his/her application."

COUNTER ARG IS MY PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF KIDS W. 680 AND 69O GMATS GETTING INVITES ON DAY ONE.
YOU MAY BE RIGHT THAT THEY DO A QUICK FILTER, BUT IT COULD BE SOME ALGO W. GMAT/GPA/PEDIGREE, AND SOME HUMAN INTERVENTION ON TOP OF THAT.

Anyone know if they have traditionally interviewed in other major cities in America such as Chicago or Houston?

I am a college freshman now and I am seriously considering applying to the HBS 2+2 program. I would really like to know what to focus on in order to have better chances of getting in, besides GPA and GMAT. I know that GPA is not vital when comes to BS admissions, but I believe the 2+2 program is different because we are not supposed to have any prior work experience, thus my academic record comes to be more significant.
I will be majoring in Economics and Business administration (double major)

Sandy, based on your experience, do the students who get the first invites have a statistically higher rate of admission or is it a wash in first round?

770, 3.9 GPA, 4 years WE in education (non profit) with TFA/TFAll. What puzzles me is a got an interview invite two years ago, with a lower GMAT (720), and less significant work results. Has that ever happened to anyone on this board before? Got an invite one year, no invite later on?[/quote]

Same situation for me. Interview invite + waitlist last year. Nothing this year. I thought I put together a better app too. Go figure.

GPA is very important in business school admissions.

You need to get involved in extracurricular activities and take leadership roles. You need to find ways to be "outstanding"

I'm sure it does. Yes, I'd move this question to the HBS thread as I'm sure you'll get better feedback.

From what I can tell, you are very, very unlikely to get in because you're majoring in business.

The 2+2 program is designed to attract people from non-traditional fields. They take very few Business undergrads. (https://www.hbs.edu/mba/perspectives/cla ... stics/2+2/)

If it's 2+2 that you really, really want to aim your life toward (and this is a bad idea), major in something like biochem.

pretty common for kids w. improved apps not to get invite in yr2 versus invite and even WL in year 1. Sometimes you age out, or just get unlucky 2nd time around. In some ways, if age is not an issue, goes to show the subjectivity element of app process.

There are just a lot of things that you can't control. Randomness is everywhere... just prep for the best app possible, and let 'chance' do the rest.

Don't be fooled by randomness :o

For a school like Harvard (or any top school for that matter), every application component is extremely important. The competition is so fierce that any mistake could be grounds for a rejection.
