Eh, now I think some of you are just sounding like 'sore losers'.

HBS is a great school. I have a lot of friends who are there and graduated from there and they are all doing pretty well. Just like the people from other B-schools.

It's ok to like other schools over HBS, but coming here and bashing the school? Doesn't look too good, IMO.

lol well spoken. sounds a lot like a case of "sore losers"... if those folks are gonna trash talk this school so much -- why did they even apply in the first place. i bet their point of view would have been different had they gotten in ;)

It's just an opinion. Just like any other... and that is an MBA blog where we are supposed to exchange opinions, thoughts strategies etc. no one denies the fact that HBS is a great school. But it's not a good fit for everyone, in fact that's what I meant to say. It has some weaknesses here and there just like any other top school... and there's nothing wrong about it. Did we touch a sensitive spot here? bashing the school? what are you taking about???? I think you sound really desperate... move on, it's not the end of the world. They also declined Warren Buffett!

Lol, I sound desperate? I'm actually just defending my friends at HBS who are all very dear to me. They are not idiots and are def not getting fired from their jobs. I have totally accepted my HBS faith and moved on but it's clear to a lot of people that you and others are hating on the school for no reason.

Dinged as well -I believe that HBS is a great school, but i agree that case-method might not be a perfect fit for everyone. (I think it's especially harder for non-native speakers).

In addition, for the top schools, there is incredible competition out there. When i check this forum, I see people who get into HBS but rejected by Cornell or who are accepted to Sloan but rejected by CBS.

I think there is no secret formula here. All we can do is give it our best shot, then move on.
I wish the best for people made it to Harvard interviews - What a great success!

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER IF THIS QUESTION COMES UP ON YOUR HBS INTERVIEW--AND IT HAS!!!!!!

Occupy Wall Street Protestors Have a Point
https://hbswk.hbs.edu/item/6956.html
Working Knowledge
The concerns of the Occupy Wall Street movement are not far different from what business leaders have told professors Joseph L. Bower, Herman B. Leonard, and Lynn S. Paine. Joseph L. Bower is a Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School.

I had an interview last week and forgot to write down my interviewer's name. How important is it to send a thank you note/email, and if so, any ideas on how to get her name? I have called the admissions office a few times and got no answer. Thanks for your help!

Dont worry about Thank You notes, they discourage them, assuming you are talking about HBS. At other schools, eg. Stanford, where you are meeting w. alum, etc. and inter. is freq. longer and more chatty, staying in contact w. interviewer can marginally help at times, e.g. WL, if you two get along. etc.

:)

mine is coming up next week...not obsessing over it, but the interview date is like this storm cloud you see approaching in the distance. not much to do except to prepare as best as possible and hope the nerves don't get the best of me on game day.

best of luck!

Ding here as well...

At 32, I'm certain this is a one-and-done for me. It's sadly ironic. While I did some great things at a very well known company my first 5 years after college, I knew it wasn't "sexy" enough for my dream schools. Plus, to save money for my future MBA, I attended an unknown college w/a full ride vs. graduate w/debt from ivy league. So, the last 5 years I spend doing sexier HBS-quality work (my peers were Tuck, HBS & Booth grads) hoping to be a more attractive candidate. Turns out none of it was good enough. I know there's nothing I could do for the next 7 months that would make my application stronger for next year. Maybe a retake of the GMAT would've helped, but I think 5 years of doing quantitative analysis on $100M+ decisions is ample evidence the coursework won't be an issue...and it's not like a 690 is way outside the lines anyway. Only the 1st ding, but it seriously makes me wonder if the odds of being over 30 and getting an MBA were a lot steeper than I realized.

Wherever it is that you so desperately want to work probably recruits at other schools too. Maybe even a few lower-ranked state schools. Go to one of those schools, do well, and get the job. Five years from now it won't really matter where you got your MBA.
