update: not clear the protocol described below applies to kids who were WL 1st round without interviews, and then called for interviews during 2nd round, they may be treated, in terms of timing, like 2nd rounders.

no, but the WL gal, Dana, who is calling admits, is telling them that they have to reconfirm their desire to attend by Monday 26th, so one theory is, they will tell all 50 kids they planned to take this week, to meet that deadline, but that is just speculation. They can admit kids whenever they want,including on D-day 3/29 or even after. ON 3/29, WLers could get Ding, Admit, or invite to join May-July WL. All that said, if you don't get a call fr. Dana in next 3-4 days, I'd say your odds just went down, but you could be put on some later WL. My guess is, they will flush a lot of WLer's on 3/29.

Hi guys.... Do you know if HBS and Stanford offer merit based scholarships at all? Or just need based fellowships? And when would we find out about those scholarships if any?

What I mean is whether HBS and Stanford offer merit-based scholarships that do not need any form/application and are awarded on the day they release the results like other schools... Thanks a lot, this is really important for my case

I went to an HBS info session on campus and remember them saying that they only offer need-based aid and not merit-based.

Right
They called people who fit the traits of 1 and 2 below.
1. they responded to initial earlier email fr. Dana sent to ALL WLers in Round One who had been interviewed to confirm interest to stay on WL and
2. IN addition, HBS ALSO wanted to admit them.

They told those people, I believe, to confirm acceptance by this Friday.

Not sure of the terms of that acceptance, or when they need to put down deposits, etc.

Right

not sure, process was totally diff last year; I think uncalled WL from Round 1 could be put on further WL, e.g. the one that goes to May-July etc.

HBS only offers need-based aid, and according to their website the average award is $29K per year. I don't know when they notify.... perhaps anyone who got in R1 could help?

Not sure about Stanford.

The self-styled “hottest star from China” extended Harvard men an offer of marriage on Monday—but the choosy husband-hunter said that Asians and those without a Masters degree need not apply.

Luo Yufeng, who gained notoriety in China for passing out flyers petitioning for the perfect spouse and has since moved to New York City, visited Harvard earlier this week to continue her search for a husband—specifically, one who stands between 5.74 and 6.11 feet tall, is between the ages of 25 and 31, and “would like to dominate the world.”

The flyers that Luo distributed in front of Boylston Gate and the Science Center list these qualifications and other stringent marital requirements.

“I need a man handsome, tall, and Master’s degree from Harvard Business School and [works] in a bank,” she wrote in an email to The Crimson which has been edited for punctuation. “Harvard is the best university all over the world, so I think it’s worth to have a try,” she added.

Luo—who has 1.9 million followers on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter—said she was impressed by the Harvard men she met, whom she described as “gentle and polite.” She added that she was particularly taken with “one handsome man outside the Harvard Business School.”

I dont think schools have a pref. among MBB, e.g. HBS favors McK versus MIT favoring Bain versus Stanford favoring BCG, altho that is just my experienced feel for the issue, I dont have data. Basically, all those firms select out of college on the same criteria, test scores (SAT's), gpa, school pedigree, extras, and personality that B school accoms use, so it is no mystery that lots of MBB applicants are successful at top schools, 3 or 4 years later. As to how mch of a diff it makes fr. MBB vs. Deloitte, LEK, Accenture, well, top schools take kids from those firms too, but fewer, my guess, in terms of percents, and you really need a special story, e.g. you want to non-target MBB college, and hustled yourself into Accenture, and then did very well at Accenture and also had solid gpa and gmat blah, blah. Or you worked or LEK and then got job w. hedge fund, etc. It is not the brand per se that is the issue, it is that kids at MBB firms often have Ivy/Near Ivy pedigrees, high gpa and gmat, and solid work experience, and often solid extras. Many applicants fr. Deloitte etc. are some unit below that on all metrics, or most, and that is what makes the diff at H/S/W etc.
