I don't know how to answer your question. But I am older than you and i applied... although i don't think i have much chance. But who knows. it totally depends on how much faith you have on yourself and how much effort you are willing to put.

Ding here as well...

At 32, I'm certain this is a one-and-done for me. It's sadly ironic. While I did some great things at a very well known company my first 5 years after college, I knew it wasn't "sexy" enough for my dream schools. Plus, to save money for my future MBA, I attended an unknown college w/a full ride vs. graduate w/debt from ivy league. So, the last 5 years I spend doing sexier HBS-quality work (my peers were Tuck, HBS & Booth grads) hoping to be a more attractive candidate. Turns out none of it was good enough. I know there's nothing I could do for the next 7 months that would make my application stronger for next year. Maybe a retake of the GMAT would've helped, but I think 5 years of doing quantitative analysis on $100M+ decisions is ample evidence the coursework won't be an issue...and it's not like a 690 is way outside the lines anyway. Only the 1st ding, but it seriously makes me wonder if the odds of being over 30 and getting an MBA were a lot steeper than I realized.

Wherever it is that you so desperately want to work probably recruits at other schools too. Maybe even a few lower-ranked state schools. Go to one of those schools, do well, and get the job. Five years from now it won't really matter where you got your MBA.

I tried to go through previous threads about R1, but there are too many.

You'll hear on whatever date the admissions site said decisions will be released. They're all listed here: https://www.hbs.edu/mba/admissions/applicationdates.html HBS doesn't do early phone calls or anything like that--you'll just get an email telling you to log in and check your status.

Prabhakar, everyone has different experiences but I'd say the "basic" questions are usually the same and can be found in the Harbus guide and/or Clear Admit Wiki: https://www.clearadmit.com/wiki/index.ph ... dInterview

The interviewers are generally trained (from what I've seen) to ask questions based on their dialogue with you. Thus, if you give an answer that you're not completely sure of (or make an offhand remark about something you don't know much about), the interviewer may press that point.

As for who your interviewers are, I don't think that you will know until you get to the site. I had checked in a bit on the earlier side on-campus (went to a class earlier in the day) and they didn't tell me anything. Good luck!

Quick question to those who've already been interviewed: Does HBS let you know who's exactly going to interview you? (For off-campus interviews)

SO FAR:
Dee herself in SF (nice trip)
Hil and Lauren in MP
Quinn in Paris
Good ol Charlie in NYC
Lamb et al in London (I think)
TBD
Dubai/Mumbai, dunno yet, but could be same gals as last coupla rounds: Lucas and Jennet
Shanghai: Chang
DK
Sao Paulo --maybe Dee in Rodeo gear :-)

hmmmm, having done 60 (not a figure of speech) mock interviews so far THIS ROUND and gotten feedback on lots of them, mostly nothing really new except this, "do you think you will get bored reading 500 cases?"
and of course wild-man Charlie in NYC, of tell me what you want to start doing, keep doing and stop doing fame with corkers like this:
Tell me about constructive criticism at Job 1 that you agreed with?
Tell me about constructive criticism at Job 1 you disagreed with?
What would your high school best friend say are your 3 strengths? 2 weaknesses?
College roommate - 3 strengths, 2 weaknesses?

Intermittent HRH question, "what is a stereotype about your [country, business, etc] that is true and what is a stereotype that is not true?"

Superlative mega account of interview w. Her Majesty right here, this is what it is like:

Hi Sandy,

Just got out of my interview with Dee Leopold. Double down! It was exactly as advertised: very intense, rapid-fire, with many follow-up questions and then abrupt changes in direction. Many times she asked for multiple examples of something and then seemed satisfied after the first and moved on. The questions were very specific to my application. You nailed a bunch of them.

I went to an Interview for HBS and my interviewer was very easy-going and friendly... So I went with the flow and loosen up, made a light joke or 2, and talked in a fairly casual manner, like a coffee chat with friends... Nothing over the top or out of line though... The interviewer didn't ask any "tough" question also. Now thinking back, I wonder whether it was the right thing to do? It was my true personality, but do they expect us to be very professional and relatively conservative no matter how they appear to be?

for what it's worth, my interview was very similar. I recall another poster commenting that the interview was "like catching up with an old friend at a starbucks" - exactly how I felt after my interview.

good luck!

Thanks... Good luck to you too... So how did you go, woggy987? Are you happy with your performance? Did you go with the flow too, or did you try to maintain your professionalism and stay somewhat conservative/business-formal? Anything you wish you would do differently? I am getting quite nervous about how I went and it's quite difficult waiting for the final outcome...

to be honest... I think it went fine. I'm not the one to reflect much after interviews (I personally just was happy it was over and went out to dinner with a bunch of friends who are current HBS students) - so I don't know if I would have done anything differently. I was probably a bit more casual than most other applicants, but that's my true personality and the most consistent advice I have gotten throughout this process is to be genuine... which is why I went the no consultant route for any of this stuff (essays, shaping my story, interview prep, etc.)

I hope we both do get in. I really like HBS (but then again, I understand the odds.. and I'm very fortunate to have even gotten an interview with HBS and other schools).

for now... enjoy the freedom :)
