Hmmm, have I got this right, one reported invite on this blog.
What was total in chat room?
My own internal files still show a bunch of people whom I expect to be interviewed, and I'm usually not a raging optimist on this topic. I still think there is a non-trivial number of invites to come next week. Possibly ~10+ pct of the total Round 1 interview cohort.

I also received an invite today -- similar background to the other person on the blog that received one. IB / Equity Research. I wasn't able to sign in to register for an interview time until around 1 pm EST and nearly all of the NYC times were taken and very few Boston times were left. I know the HBS blog said they would be managing the time slots, so it may have been that I waited too long after the initial notification.

If all the interview slots are almost taken, does that mean very few ppl will get an invitation next Wednesday?

It also be that HBS will release additional time slots come November 9th. Not that I know much about this, but I would guess based on the number of people invited to interview on this forum that there is a good number of invites yet to come out. (Disclaimer - I am usually optimistic)

My understanding was that of those interviewed, 60% approximately are accepted. If we accept that the overall acceptance rate is 11.24% and that the number of applicants is sufficiently large from this board to allow the law of large numbers to apply as a representative sample of the full population (which seems to roughly be the case) then we know the following:

.60 * of all interviewed = number admitted
number admitted / total applications = percent admitted = 11.24%
percent interviewed = all interviewed / total applications = all interviewed / (number admitted / 11.24%) = .1124 / (number admitted / all interviewed) = .1124 / .6 = 18.7333%

Given the sample size of 190 in round 1, we would expect about 36 invites to interview from this board. However there have only been 26 invited thus far. Unless this sample has deviated substantially from the norm, it stands to reason there are 10 more invites out there for next Wednesday for people on this board alone.

Are HBS 2+2 2010 admits (entering 2012) a part of total HBS class size. I think yes. Then the calculations (speculations !) might change with around 100 seats already taken up.

A question for those who have received interview invites:

The interview invitation asked us to RSVP by a certain date. Any idea on how we are supposed to do that?

Thanks

I suppose they meant only if you want to cancel, but I am not sure.

Should we call you guys? Can anyone in the US call and validate this info?

So who is ready for another round of eating a gallon of ice cream while hugging your knees and rocking back and forth in the shower when they dont see their invites come in tomorrow?

I sure am.

Eating ice cream in the shower? Hm, never thought of that.

after not receiving invite in 2 "waves" while some of my colleagues did, I feel myself very nervous and began actively working on a few additional application packages. Ice cream in shower doesn't help!

It doesnt?? you have to eat it with a fork though, otherwise it wont work.

I thought my background in airlines would give me an oddball quality but I guess its not enough. I have given up already. At this point I am hoping to be waitlisted. I thought my application was very good. HBS is not strong on operations, thus, they dont care too much about backgrounds like mine. I should have taken that consulting job I was offered instead of doing what I like (airlines)... NOT. I would not take a job on another industry (I dont care if it is Goldman or Bain), I am where I want to be. If HBS does not like my choice, or they think of it as not selective enough, who cares. I wont be a piece of clay that is molded only to what HBS wants out of people just to get an MBA from there.

But please Dee (if you are reading this), do consider waitlisting me or scheduling some facetime with your humble servant (by sending me an email next wednesday) :)

FSAQ, hbs actually places a number of people into United and other airlines so I doubt you are out of the running just yet.

Thank you for your kind remarks!!

But you, me and Dee know that I am screwed... no interview or waitlist for me... highly dobt that I will get a call. I did for a minute there, think that I had a chance because of my background on airlines (I am a volunteer at a foundation in Phoenix AZ whose chairman and founder is a HBS graduate and he said that there are not many alumni on the airline industry). I have been in the forefront of crew union negotiations and I am currently in fuel operations, hedging and supply... interesting stuff (in my opinion cause I love airlines). But again, it isnt what HBS likes.

Still crossing my fingers for the waitlist or interview, but I am already working on my LGO application for MIT. They have very strong airline research, courses and opportunities through their Airline Consortium.

I wish you all the best of lucks.

FSAQ, I got an interview invite last Wednesday, and I work in the aviation industry - so I can obviously guarantee you must still be in the running.

Finally we'll get the FINAL results from HBS. No more waiting after this. That itself is a big relief.
