for reasons stated: internal files and lack of invites reported here today. Mostly internal files of peeps I expect to be interviewed who have not been.

I don't know about the Chat but I only saw 1 invite as well. So what's 10% of R1?

900-(~100 "2+2") / 2 = ~400
I'm pretty sure there are slightly more R2 invites than R1 (more people apply in R2), so 350/450 admission split.. and they do 1/.6 interviews/admit... so ~585 interviews which means roughly 58 interviews left with that 10% guess.

I'm a 710/27/Eng/XC Waitlisted R2 Last year. I was encouraged to apply again in R1. Haven't heard anything yet. I'm applying with a slightly better GMAT and a few other 'improvements'. It seems so far like they may have received a stronger application pool this year. Hope a bigger bunch of the GC invites are stuck in the last batch, fingers crossed for 50/58 invites from this forum next week =)
Good luck peeps, love you all, thanks for making this ride easier by being here!

Hmmm, have I got this right, one reported invite on this blog.
What was total in chat room?
My own internal files still show a bunch of people whom I expect to be interviewed, and I'm usually not a raging optimist on this topic. I still think there is a non-trivial number of invites to come next week. Possibly ~10+ pct of the total Round 1 interview cohort.

I also received an invite today -- similar background to the other person on the blog that received one. IB / Equity Research. I wasn't able to sign in to register for an interview time until around 1 pm EST and nearly all of the NYC times were taken and very few Boston times were left. I know the HBS blog said they would be managing the time slots, so it may have been that I waited too long after the initial notification.

so guess what people?? I of course did not get an invite. I am headed to a buffet.. preferably at a casino since I am feeling like I got nothing else to lose..

Lets hope for a waitlist or an interview next wednesday. Thats the real reason I applied to R1, so Adcoms would have an ample time to think about me, rather than like last year where I applied to R3 and of course Im not living at Boston so I got rejected.

Cheers to everyone who got the invite! Good luck. I am placing my faith in MIT LGO.

Hey guys,

Thanks to you all for being individual fonts of wisdom over this time period.

A quick question regarding the interviews that Sandy, or indeed anyone, can answer.

Is the interview a subset of your candicacy, or are they essentially going to base the decision for admission off the interview alone?

My understanding is that they simply are a factor towards your admission decision (however, whether it is weighted 10%, 20% or 50% is anyone's guess). However I have read in a couple of places that after you receive an invite it resets the playing field for all candidates and everyone plays off the same base.

Does anyone have a point of view on this?

I tend to think it's a factor towards your admission decision. However, anyone who receives an invite has a reasonable chance of getting in so it's not like some have to absolutely rock the interview else you don't get in.

In regards to %, like anything in this process, I think it depends. If you're a rockstar, get to the interview and be a complete jerk to the interviewer, your interview automatically becomes 100% of your application.

that is DEAD WRONG. In fact, it is almost the opposite. The interview filters out people based on 1. people who cannot speak English, 2. people who cannot speak English for that 30 minutes, by getting lost, digressing, getting confused, or flustered, 3. people who for various reasons are jerks (attitude, content of answers, general deportment, combo of all that). If you take interview and do not get filtered out, your decision is then based on entire app, including scores, schooling, pedigree jobs, extras, identidy politics, their mosaic needs, etc. etc.
One small piece of that last, holistic decison is actual performance on interview, but not a large part.
Mostly the interview flunks people, it doesn not select them.

My understanding was that of those interviewed, 60% approximately are accepted. If we accept that the overall acceptance rate is 11.24% and that the number of applicants is sufficiently large from this board to allow the law of large numbers to apply as a representative sample of the full population (which seems to roughly be the case) then we know the following:

.60 * of all interviewed = number admitted
number admitted / total applications = percent admitted = 11.24%
percent interviewed = all interviewed / total applications = all interviewed / (number admitted / 11.24%) = .1124 / (number admitted / all interviewed) = .1124 / .6 = 18.7333%

Given the sample size of 190 in round 1, we would expect about 36 invites to interview from this board. However there have only been 26 invited thus far. Unless this sample has deviated substantially from the norm, it stands to reason there are 10 more invites out there for next Wednesday for people on this board alone.

At least, that's what I'm telling myself.....

Sandy, what would you say the acceptance rate is for those applicants who don't "flunk" the interview? 80%? 90%? 99%?

Well, 2 invites have been indirectly reported so far. One from Mumbai, and one from Gurgaon.

I think for the sake of sanity, it is better to stop hoping. We are all in the same boat.

Would you say that for other schools' interviews as well?
