It saves me from losing all of my confidence when hearing about such qualified candidates like you who have not received the HBS invite "yet" - "it's not over until it's over."
Although chances are much lower now, you may be hearing from the school in the coming weeks. No one knows... not even the Adcom themselves (according to their blog...) Who knows... they may be interviewing 1000 kids instead of 850 this year...? (I don't want to start any rumor though...)

If you applied right after your 2 years at McKinsey, you would have been admitted without an issue. It's not fair that 1-3 years of age difference plays such a big role at HBS, when all of us are still so young with great potential. I wonder what has made them believe that people over 26 are not as qualified...

Do you have a link for this, other than just statistics that age has trended down in recent years (I don't even know if this is true)?

I was in denial about this age factor for the longest time, but the trend is pretty clear.
Here are some helpful links.

https://hbsguru.com/blog/2008/10/04/offi ... hrhs-blog/

https://hbsguru.com/blog/2008/08/04/hbs- ... 0-percent/

https://hbsguru.com/blog/2008/03/28/hbs- ... y-standby/

Also, you can compare the class profiles over the past 10 years. Although the Adcom won't admit, it is pretty clear that your chances are much lower once past age 26.

Has HBS actually notified people who have been dinged or are you just assuming if you did not get an invite yet that you will not?

That's what I'm assuming unless I hear otherwise.

Hope is still alive for you R1 ers'. I visited HBS today and was blown away by the case method. I met some fascinating students and applicants as well. Believe in yourselves! You'd be surprised how many non-traditional students I met (i.e. not PE/IB/MC). Also, adcom confirmed that interview invites will continue into November (up until 2 weeks to the deadline).

Has anyone been able to get the class visit scheduler application to work?

The dates that are clickable all say "no times available".

Unfortunately, I lot of visitors today were unable to attend classes because of this glitch - it doesn't seem to be resolved or perhaps even, all slots are taken. I think I reserved the class visit at least a month ago...

I emailed HBS and was able to schedule a class visit right before my interview. Just be aware that you can only select a time, and not an actual class, so I guess it's just luck if you end up with an accounting class or a management class.

triple5soul,
Did the Adcom mention anything about interviewing more people this year or about changing their application review approach? Given Dee's last post, it makes sense that they're sending invites into Nov., but the numbers don't seem to add up, as there are already nearly 850 (?) invites that already went out.

To be quite honest the adcom wasn't that "forthcoming". However, a student host of mine said that in the past, HBS would send out a huge wave at the beg. of R1 and it would quiet down quick before the decision date. This year, the adcom is apparently spreading out the interview invites. I met some impressive folks who had strong profiles and had not yet heard from HBS... I would be surprised if all invites were out.

Another piece of information I got (take it for what it's worth) is that R1 and R2, in terms of chances, are identical. Who knows... From what I gathered, HBS is seeking diversity rather than pure stats (ie GPA/GMAT/WE@ big name firm/bank/consulting,etc.). This was huge for someone like myself in retail/entrepreneurship.

My pleasure. I'm an applicant myself (R2) but if anyone has questions about the class visit or HBS in general (facilities, campus, experience in class) feel free to ask. I don't know if it's standard across other bschools, but it seems that a lot of MBA students had Harvard Business Cards (with their name, contact info, Class of 2011, etc.). Pretty cool...

SC,

If you don't mind me asking, what's your profile like and when did you get an interview invite?

Thanks,

No problem. My GMAT is 770 (50 Q, 45 V), and my GPA is 3.89. However, I will have just over 2 years work experience upon matriculation. We'll see how it goes. HBS seems more accepting of young applicants than some other schools, but maybe I am just being optimistic! I got an invititation on 10/15, but I think they are still going out--Don't panic yet! Good luck to all who are waiting. I am waiting on some other schools, and it is nervewracking!!!
