Applying R2 to both HBS and KSG for the Joint program. Anyone else out there looking to do this?

M/27/730/3.66@ West Point, Engineering/Military

Also applying to a few other schools, looking mostly at Joint programs. Congrats to R1 admits, best of luck to those dinged.

To all R1 admits: I tried to register for the ASW events on 2/4 and 2/5, but I didn't receive any confirmation that my registration had gone through. Did anyone else register and not receive any form of confirmation? Should I email someone to confirm my registration was received?

I'll be able to agree with the statement only if I get out of Wharton's waitlist. Right now I'm still waiting...
If they do accept me, though, I'm sure that I'll feel just like home :)

Didn't receive a confirmation either.

Also, I sent an email to find out more about a partner accompanying you to the events. It notes that partners are encouraged to attend, but then the questionnaire asks for "spousal" info, so I wanted to be sure that my girlfriend could come along. We already booked the flight anyways, so I'll just assume it's OK.

Yeah, I wondered about that too. I didn't register him, but my boyfriend lives in Boston and though he'll have to work during the day, he will likely be available for the evening events. I wondered whether I needed to email them and tell them he might join me for those events.

I did not receive a confirmation as well BUT if you try to click on the link and try to register again it will tell you that the poll has already been submitted. I guess that is as good a confirmation that you are going to get for the time being.

From the HBS Admissions blog/ 23 December 2009:

We're turning out the lights tomorrow and heading home for the holidays. For the first time in recent memory, our admissions calendar allowed for a Round One decision notification before the HBS holiday break. We liked it. It made for a rather frantic Thanksgiving, but we're looking forward to not being in Dillon House all by ourselves like characters out of Dickens.

Round Two is also slightly modified this year: The deadline isn't until January 19 and that means we'll be back on the job in plenty of time to answer last minute application questions. In prior years, the deadline was right after the New Year... which probably caused a fair amount of frustration and anxiety when we weren't around to answer phones or email every day.

Here's a preview of what you can expect as we come up to the Round Two January 19 application deadline. We don't start reading applications until after the deadline - so there's no advantage to rushing to hit the "submit" button. That said, server traffic can be heavy on the day of the deadline, so it's smart not to wait until the final few hours. Everything always works out, but there can be some very anxious moments. It's probably a good idea to make sure your recommenders are very mindful of the deadline. Right after January 19, we'll be able to give you a pretty good idea of when interview invitations will be released and when the actual interview period will be.

If you're thinking of visiting HBS, you're welcome to come during the month of January, but the campus is very quiet until the third week. Students are on break...and many are on Immersion Experiences (IXPs) or student-led trips and treks. However, we will have information sessions - and the lines for lunch in Spangler will be considerably shorter! Class visits will resume in February - watch the website for sign-up details.

We hope that the holiday period gives you a chance to be both celebratory and reflective. Here in Dillon we're making our New Year's resolutions. I know one: It's important for us to carve out time to do the exercise of putting ourselves in your shoes. I always think we should be listening more and talking less. This can only lead to improvements in how you experience both the application process and Harvard Business School. Speaking for myself, I will try to be more diligent about timely updates about interview invitations and decision notification. I've been trying not to over-communicate and just repeat things that are on the website - but I resolve to be more sensitive to those high-anxiety periods.

Sending you all good wishes for a safe and happy holiday season and looking forward to 2010!

I've been reading the forums for sometime but never participated. I apologize if this question has been asked before...but I see a lot of 700+ and a handful of 740+ rejects. Any admits in the sub-700 range. 650-670 GMAT?

Just curious. Wish you all the best...hope we all get the trenches we'd like to spend 2 years in.

P.S - I'm an R2 applicant.

The median 50% GMAT score range for HBS is between 700 and 760. That's over 450 students in RC. There are always quite a handful of 650-690 admits. The Median 80% of admits at HBS have GMAT scores of 670-760. But the lower the GMAT the more profound the GPA, work ex, achievements. So they balance the low score for admits. And by the way, there are a lot of 740+ rejects, just go through the ding list. It's disheartening.

I have a question regarding the Harvard essays?

Is mentioning 'fit' / why HBS? necessary?

The reason I ask this is because Q1 & Q2 does not really allow you to go into the 'why HBS?' question. For the other two questions, I am selecting #2 & #3, which does not really give me any room to go into that question either, so I'm wondering if anyone has done the Harvard essays without really answering the 'Why HBS' question.

What is your elevator pitch? ;)

Once you have figured that out, you can easily understand how HBS fits into the scheme. I think the Goals essay is the perfect place to sneak in a line about how HBS fits into the whole scheme of things you have planned for yourself. But it may be okay to do the essays without answering the 'Why HBS' question. Just make sure that you form the perfect fit for the school — have qualities the schools expects it's students to have.
