I’ve made one switch in my tenure so far. I wanted to check if I make another one in next few months in the same industry but with a better position, how’d that be viewed by the adcom?
By all means, do that. Why would "better position" be viewed unfavorably by adcom?

People do make frequent switches, especially at the beginning of their careers.

All the best.

Decent profile overall. You can definitely switch if a better opportunity comes in. There’s only one recco needed for ISB and the one at your current firm will be a recent one even if you move. Besides, you want to pick an outcome that’s more certain for now. You will be asked about the move in the interview. Since we know that, we can hit the question out of the park :)
Cheers,

I have made 2 switches in a span on 1.6yrs of work experience. I was rejected in R3 this year after interview. So not sure if that answer your question, but i still got the interview invite.

Thank you all for your responses. I was certainly concerned about the switch. Thankfully, I do have some strong recommenders in my current firm who’d be happy to recommend even after I switch. My reason for switch is better position, learning opportunity and I want to avoid stagnation in my current role within organization.

Incidentally, this reminds me of a batchmate of mine at ISB. For campus recruitment, ISB has a 1-page limit to the resume.

This batchmate had made so many job-switches prior to ISB that he found it impossible to even mention all the company names, within this 1-page restriction. Ultimately, he had no option, but to skip few :).

One - even if you have multiple switches in your career or lets say u have over 20 years of exp with many companies - I have seen people restricting their CVs to one page !!! If your batchmate with less years of work ex but with multiple switches had to skip few - well that says that he was not able to manage that one oage properly🙏. .....in any case career switches if they benefit one - well no need to give much thought -what the adcoms gonna think- just do it if it benefits you monetarily as well as with your career progression

In my many years of experience of working as an ISB application consultant, I have observed that the Adcom is very permissive in this regard and multiple career switches do not normally deter your chances of an interview invite.

Multiple career switches can just elevate the curiosity level of the interview panel. During the interview, a good defense of your career moves would actually strengthen your candidature.

I had 730 in GMAT but was rejected after waitlist from Co'23 admissions. Should I re-attempt GMAT? I know I can score better but is it worth the mental bandwidth and the costs if the only school I'm applying to next year is ISB?

Posted from my mobile device

Hi mbakarnihai , hope you are well

The major reason why applicants get on the waitlist in the first place is that they may have certain red flags in the essays' narrative or other areas of application. Inadequately deliberated post PGP goals are also a big one. I suggest that you get feedback on your ISB application and interview experience from experts and then decide what aspects are worth investing your time into. It is unlikely that GMAT of 730 alone is the reason for rejection.

Feel free to get in touch if you wish to discuss your chances further.

Best wishes

Hi everyone,

I am planning to apply for ISB this year. My profile brief:

GRE: 325, GPA : 8.9 12th : 89%, 10th : 10CGPA

Work ex by the time of joining : 4 y 10m in healthcare/life sciences consulting

I’ve made one switch in my tenure so far. I wanted to check if I make another one in next few months in the same industry but with a better position, how’d that be viewed by the adcom?

Hi Kharevabs , how your job switch is perceived by the admissions committee depends on a few factors

1. Your post-MBA goal
If your new job aligns well with your post-MBA aspired career, the switch should not affect your chances. It is not unusual for people who are targeting an industry or role change to get internships in the new domain a couple of months before they start MBA. If anything this shows strategic planning.

2. Your growth trajectory
If your new job offers noticeably better leadership avenues than your previous jobs, the admissions committee would think of your move as a rational one. You only regret chances you do not take, therefore foregoing a better job only because you have to apply for an MBA is weak reasoning.

If you have made multiple job switches with inadequate reasoning in a very short period of time and are unable to secure strong recommendations from managers who you worked with in the recent past (1-2 years) - that could be a red flag for the ad com. That could mean you are ambitious but not necessarily a good employee/manager if you have several consecutive short stints.

Best wishes
