Kharevabs
Hi everyone,
I am planning to apply for ISB this year. My profile brief:
GRE: 325, GPA : 8.9 12th : 89%, 10th : 10CGPA
Work ex by the time of joining : 4 y 10m in healthcare/life sciences consulting
I’ve made one switch in my tenure so far. I wanted to check if I make another one in next few months in the same industry but with a better position, how’d that be viewed by the adcom?
Hi
Kharevabs , how your job switch is perceived by the admissions committee depends on a few factors
1. Your post-MBA goal
If your new job aligns well with your post-MBA aspired career, the switch should not affect your chances. It is not unusual for people who are targeting an industry or role change to get internships in the new domain a couple of months before they start MBA. If anything this shows strategic planning.
2. Your growth trajectory
If your new job offers noticeably better leadership avenues than your previous jobs, the admissions committee would think of your move as a rational one. You only regret chances you do not take, therefore foregoing a better job only because you have to apply for an MBA is weak reasoning.
If you have made multiple job switches with inadequate reasoning in a very short period of time and are unable to secure strong recommendations from managers who you worked with in the recent past (1-2 years) - that could be a red flag for the ad com. That could mean you are ambitious but not necessarily a good employee/manager if you have several consecutive short stints.
Best wishes
