Profile evaluation I am a 29 M lawyer and i don’t have very stellar profile academically. I want to understand whether i have a chance for ISB ?
X: 85 percent CBSE
XII : 64 percent CBSE
UG : BA LLB (HONS); 2.55/7 GPA from National Law University top 5 in India ( got distinction in 7 subjects)
I was elected leader of Student Bar Association and got scholarship for a research paper by the government.
The moment i left law school covid happened so I had to leave my Job and i started preparing of Government legal jobs.
I didn’t found success in those but since i gained enough knowledge during preparation to reintegrate in the market I took a job in a major law prep institute in Bihar. That job clicked with me i quickly rose in ranks there and taught and mentored more than 1500 students with amazing results I was consistently ranked the best educator and I started to create reels, you tube videos and created an upward momentum in their digital presence. I worked their for 2 years.
I switched to law again i opened my own legal consultancy I have successfully handled refinance mainly in renewable energy deals.
My simple ask Do i stand a chance and please i am ready for uncomfortable truth.
Thanks in Advance.
Hi,
There is always a chance as long as you apply! That said, the profile does have its challenges which need to be addressed strategically.
Some questions that you would need to answer pragmatically are: a) the reason for low GPA, b) the length of the gap b/w graduation the next job
c) reasons for taking the next assignment in academics (as opposed to say joining a law firm or starting your own practice?)
d) Reason for starting your practice at this point
e) how long has this venture been going on for and what are the wins in this
f) reason for MBA (very important)
Do you have other dimensions to your candidature in terms of community or pro Bono involvement/ standout extracurriculars?
Your essays will have to be extremely cogent to make a strong case for yourself. Increasing your GMAT score will greatly help.
Yes, you will need to be prepared for tough competition and unless the application is really compelling, the chances are average. Suggest you put your best foot forward anyway if you have set eyes on ISB.
I have successfully worked with many candidates with extenuating circumstances. Please feel free to DM or 9619551984 in case you want a detailed discussion.
