Tech Consulting followed by Family Business for only 6 months and now you want to pursue MBA. Adcom would be extremely interested in understanding the rationale behind your career choices. It might seem as you are still in an exploratory phase. Knowing this, you must try to demonstrate depth in the work you have done, highlight transferrable skills that you have taken from Consulting to Family Business and a clear-cut need gap analysis of why you want to pursue MBA now. That is how you can portray a well-rounded decision.

26 months of experience is lower than ISB PGP’s work ex avg. To compensate for this, you will have to clearly state examples from your personal / professional life where you demonstrated one or the other traits that would show that you have leadership potential.

Lastly, Tech consulting is an extremely over represented cohort at ISB. Applicants working at ZS, Absolut Data, EXL, BCN, Capgemini, Accenture etc. etc. all portray Tech consulting in some form or other. You will have to pick out 2-3 high impact stories from your work that would show some differentiation.

All in all, you have a decent profile and with a score > 675 and a well thought through and planned application, you stand a chance to make it to ISB.

I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been mentoring applicants for more than 8 years now. Feel free to reach out (details in signature) if you seek professional guidance.

Cheers and wish you all the very best !!

Hi everyone,
I am a little late to the game but would really appreciate if someone could help evaluate my profile.

I gave my GMAT FE last month and scored a 645.

Q - 92p || V - 79p || DI - 66p

Demographics : 30yo Indian Male

Education: B.Comm, Mumbai University (State University in India)

Work Experience: ~5.5 Years (4yrs in product management and 1.5yrs in executive search) space.

Currently working: 4 Years; product manager at a fintech managing their flagship product:
-managing a team of 3 associates SPOC for all our digital lending partners
-Modernized legacy product moving all core services to micro services enabling modularity while optimising journey speeds significantly.
-Built and scaled programs through product intervention to contribute directly towards the business.
-No international experience.

Past work Experience: 1.5 Years headhunting at a global executive search firm HQ in India:
-Aided large MNCs scale their tech and product teams.

Along with this experience worked with a peer to peer education NGO aimed at empowering the youth (for 1 yr)

Extra curricular: Lacking.
Diagnosed with medical ailment with multiple relapses impeding my ability to contribute to my fullest as a result of compromised immunity.
(For the same reason, I have a 4 year gap in my resume as well - Medical Treatment)

Recommender profile: Product Head from FMS (Delhi)

Happy to provide any additional info deemed necessary and would be grateful for your inputs

Also, would giving the GMAT again in an attempt to score better help if I have already submitted my R2 application?
Thanks

Hi repudiandaein,

Explanation of the career break will be crucial. What this phase taught you overall and how it shaped you is something you should highlight.

Rest, aim for a score that exceeds a 675 to have a good chance at bagging an interview call.

Hi Kirtankirtan,

You have a stellar GMAT score and strong academic performance as well.

The extra-curricular experience appears a bit weak but the five years of work experience will throw up a number of value-adding talking points. A set of essays that aptly demonstrate your strengths and showcase a set of goals that sync well with your background are sure to give you a very good chance of receiving an interview call.

For a detailed profile evaluation, please feel free to schedule a strategy session on the following link:

Mostly You will get a call for the interview but for converting you would depend on how Strong your essays are
Clear post-MBA goals (consulting / general management / industrial leadership)
Good interview performance

What will decide it
1. Career narrative: Why MBA now after Tata Steel leadership roles?
2. Post-ISB goal realism: Don’t sound generic (avoid “strategy consulting” without linkage).
3. Impact articulation: Quantify results (revenue, volume, margin, scale).
4. Interview maturity
