Hey guys,

Are interest rates on these federal loans scheduled to decline next school year? Forgive me if the question is basic, but I haven't had much time to explore the financial aid bc I am getting killed at work.

I cannot wait for KWEST.

I believe they said the federal rates are locked in for 2008-2009. The NU loans could change though.

My understanding is the federal rate is reevaluated every July. We can't predict whether it will go up or down but with the economy going as it is, it is expected to go down.

Well everyone, I'm going to make it official... I'm going with Kellogg.

I had a great time at the Chicago GSB weekend, but after thinking about it for a couple days, I'm going with my gut. And it's telling me Kellogg. I have no doubt that I could be happy at GSB, and do well there, etc., but for me, it really is boiling down to fit. It's not that the people weren't amazing, because they are - I think it had more to do with the culture - it's not a bad culture, it's just different than what I'm looking for.

It's going to tear me apart to turn down one of the best finance schools in the world, especially since that's what I'll be studying, but here's my take on it. I know that I would get a world-class education at GSB. I know that pretty much everyone would argue that, finance-wise, it's better than Kellogg. And that may be true. But if it's not the right place for me, and the place I can thrive in, then it's not the best education for me. Based on my past experiences, the BEST school you can go to is the one in which you feel a connection, in where you feel you can truly truly thrive - rankings be d*mned. Anyways, that's how I feel. Hard to explain, but there it is.

So... I'm really looking forward to the fall. Can't wait to be in classes with the clubbers!

Lots more decisions flying out today. No change in my status. Looks like I'm at the back of the line... If they were doing it alphabetically, then i would be near the end

Send in requests to join Facebook groups...check.

Looking for apartments...check. I CANNOT believe how expensive the places are up there - they are just as expensive, if not a little moreso, than the ones downtown in the Gold Coast. Captive audience, so they can charge what they want, but sheesh...

The rent for the high end places is definitely pretty high but if you dont need the fancy place you can find some reasonable deals. We had to get a condo since the high rises dont allow dogs. We also HAD to have a washer/dryer and that was not debatable...and it had to be in the unit. After having a 4 bed / 3 bath house, a 750sqft 1 bed condo is going to be a big adjustment. Though 1800 seems pretty good after paying a mortgage that was bigger than that for the last three years.

Just received a waitlist. Better than a ding at this point, but this does not appear to be a good year to get off of the WL...

HUGE congrats Apollo! It's great to see that you really thought it through after going to both admit weekends and went with your gut. It seems that the more current students I spoke with this past weekend (at Anderson), the more I'm coming to the conclusion that it's all about gut feel.

I think you will do very well at Kellogg, even in finance. :)

Thanks Kryzak! I did think it through a lot... and at the end of the day, it was all about fit and the gut feeling. It's hard to set that aside, no matter how great the schools are. Everybody at work thinks I'm crazy for picking Kellogg over Chicago, especially since I work in banking, but I keep telling myself that I'm the one who's spending the next two years in school (not to mention the $$), so I might as well love it!
