Yup! Call your WL manager at Adcom - they'll also tell you if there is anything directed they want you to do (though often they just tell you there is nothing to do - then you can just post updates as you feel necessary).

Congrats ujjib!!

DAK was extremely important in my decision making - so definitely making the right decision in waiting until the admit weekends.

Thanks Steel. Man it feels like a punch in the gut for this to just continue on. Oh well, I need to clear my head of it and focus on my Sloan prep for now.

How do I find out who my waitlist manager is?

Thanks Steel. I am not going to sweat too much on the decision. Both the admits are like gifts for me and I would just be happy being anywhere...

One question I am trying to answer as I pick is 'do i go to Kellogg and work on my weaknesses or do i go to Chicago and build on my strengths'??

weaknesses - soft skills
strengths - analytical skills

Call up the admissions office and tell them you are on the WL. They will tell you who your WL manager is and put you in touch with them.

It's finally official, I received a rejection from Kellogg earlier today. Getting admitted to both GSB & Kellogg is a real challenge.

Ahh the quintessential choice! I faced the same decision (though between MIT and Kellogg - didn't apply to GSB). I eventually chose soft skills over analytics. (However, I will go on to explain why I don't think this choice matters!)

My thinking on the weaknesses vs. strengths issue is this - weaknesses are tougher to eliminate then strengths are to embolden. B-school can be particularly helpful in filling gaps - while you can always build on strengths (at b-school or afterwards). Especially given that b-school is a great environment within which to take risks.

That being said, b-school is also a great place to push yourself on your strengths. A time to be challenged by the best and brightest in your areas of strength.

Thus, this is why the comparative strengths of any program in the top 6 (or so) can only get you so far. The programs are so strong across the board - that these comparative programmatic strengths often end in a wash - there's a reason you applied to the top schools you did, because you believed you would get a fantastic education in the areas you want to at any of them.

So - when it all boiled down to it - I based my decision on the people. Given that you're going to spend 2 years with your fellow classmates and then rely on them for your entire career as one of your primary business networks (if not the primary business network), it is your comfortability with those around you that I think should weigh most in your decision. At the end of the day, you're going to be most successful when you surround yourself with the people that are going to facilitate your success to the highest degree (by whatever criteria you have). This goes both for b-school and business in general, in my opinion.

Octane if you get the error message saying to contact the office that usually indicates a ding or WL...sorry.

Bewakoof and livehard, best of luck with the WL, keep at it but dont become annoying any you will stand a chance. Dont let forcefeed's ding from the WL discourage you, luck at his avatar and think of how much work he probably put in trying to get off the Kellogg WL.

ujjib, I think you have a tough choice to make and a few things to think about when you make your decision.

First of all post grad goals, are you hoping to go into banking on wall st. or management or marketing at a fortune 500 company. Both will help you on your way whatever you goals are but honestly each has their known strenghts, GSB=Finance while Kellogg=Marketing and Management. MC they are very similar with the slightest of edge to Kellogg but not enough to really affect your decision.

While I agree with a lot of what Steel says about skills, I do think that your school has an image that even if you dont fit it you will carry with you. What will be more of a benefit to your future career, hardcore quant abilities or the soft skills companies complain many students lack. Are you going into a very analytical career and feel that GSBs quant rep will be more of a benefit or are you going into an area where your people skills will be very important. Obviously you wont be completely stigmatized with either image and you wont only learn quant at GSB and soft skills at Kellogg but each school bolsters those respective images. For me as an engineer, I felt that the Kellogg rep would balance out my geeky sounding background. I mean my resume could be filled with all sorts of hardcore quant based analytics if I wrote it that way but no matter how I write it now, its still screams engineer...rounding out my profile was what really made me prefer Kellogg but I love GSB too(or I wouldnt have applied) and you definitely cant go wrong if you end up there.

Culturally, both schools are filled with great people. I think Kellogg has the advantage with significant others access to the school. GSB will have a more urban life if you do what many students do and live downtown instead of in Hyde Park. The vast majority (90+%) of Kellogg students live in Evanston. That said, at Kellogg you probably will have a bunch of classmates living in the same apartment/condo building and will have a 10 minute walk to campus, where as that wont be the case for most GSB students.

It really will come down to personal feelings. Hopefully you can make both admitted students, talking to a few people that have chosen between Kellogg and other top schools the admit weekends really are what cements peoples decisions. If you go to DAK you will probably drink the coolaid like the rest of us 8-)

No matter what its nice to know you will be in the Chicago area this fall.
