congrats to the accepted! And good luck to the W/L and dings (with other schools).

ujjib, i think river and steel already hit all the points I want to hit, but similar to river, with two engineering degrees and a 7 year WE at an engineering company, I will always choose a school known for its "soft" skills over an analytical one (which is one of the reasons I didn't apply to MIT or GSB). Soft skills, IMHO, are hard to learn for an analytical person, so being immersed in that environment will help you learn from mistakes and make you a much more well-rounded leader.

BTW, fill out the DAK Roll Call and I'll see you in a few weekends! :)

to echo what the others say about soft skills... It is a difficult skill to learn. Quant skills are quite linear (although open to different interpretations and manipulations), however soft skills require agility. Interacting with one person to get a result doesn't necessarily work with a second person. Learning the repetoire requires you to understand the working culture, the individual culture and the individual cultural background. On top of that, they have different communication styles. The 6 common dichotomies (from Dr. David Matsumoto 2007)are :-

Independent ------Interdependent
Egalitarianism------Status
Risk---------------Restraint
Direct-------------Indirect
Task--------------Relationship
Short-Term--------Long-Term

How each person fits inside these dichotomies should influence how you communciate with them. This isn't even including their motivational personality, depending on whether they are people, knowledge or results biaised (or a combination thereof).

I've been on too many internal training courses at work

Ding it is for me. Congrats to the admits, K is definitely a great school, and will probably will be as highly regarded in the future as the Chicago GSB... just kidding...

So I will be driving south instead of north on Northshore next year, and I am really excited that so many of us are gonna end up in Chicago.

Now, how can I change my nickname ???

Thus, this is why the comparative strengths of any program in the top 6 (or so) can only get you so far. The programs are so strong across the board - that these comparative programmatic strengths often end in a wash - there's a reason you applied to the top schools you did, because you believed you would get a fantastic education in the areas you want to at any of them.

Thanks Steel. I see your point on the top schools being strong across the board. I agree, I will have numerous opportunities to work on my soft skills at GSB or utilize my analytical ability at kellogg. The people and culture are certainly different at the two chicago schools..having worked in companies with very different cultures, i know how important this factor could have on job/school satisfaction..I am thinking Chicago based on the culture/people factor, but the admit weekends will give me the best picture..

riverripper

ujjib, I think you have a tough choice to make and a few things to think about when you make your decision.
river, thanks!!! no tough choice here..i actually get that (cliched) feeling that i cannot go wrong on this one. i am leaning towards chicago, but if Kellogg would even give me $5K, I would totally shift my loyalities..

As you point out, my post MBA goals will be a major factor in my decision. THe problem is I am not really sure about my goals. In my essays I have written about exploring entrepreneurship opportunities in India, and even though my idea is decent, I do not think I will be ready for it immediately after MBA. I am not even sure about a broad field yet..These are some of things I am considering -

Consulting (very slight edge to kellogg)
GM/Strategy Groups (slight edge to kellogg)
IM (certainly chicago)
Non profit (both)

mgoblue2

My friends at the GSB tell me that landing finance gigs (internships) for international students this year has been very tough. I imagine that its the same way at all the schools.
mgoblue, i haven't heard about the hardships in getting financial internships..infact the adcom chats and some current students were pretty positive on recruitment season inspite of the subprime meltdown. IB is a no-no for me, but I do want to know more about the status on internship recruitment this year..thanks for the advice. recruitment and academics are going to be my top questions to current students..one thing i did hear is that Big3 consulting internships are very very difficult to get at every school..

Thanks Kry. I will certainly see in you in a couple of weeks. I got two engg. degrees too, but I moved out after working 1yr in R&D. It was all about the culture at work..

Academics is also a factor for me. During my school visits, I have been thru so many classes that made me wonder if I really want to spend $100K tuition for these classes. I think I will get the best in-classroom experience at chicago and that certainly means quite a bit to me..

So I glanced at Nervous' new picture and it made me think - what kinds of perks do you think we're going to get being at Kellogg during the Centennial year? Looks like most of the events are geared towards Alumni, but I have to think students will get in on the action too.

I wonder if they'll tell us at DAK II to try to entice us to go.

darn, Kellogg offers so many more "perk" type things... I know I shouldn't base my decisions on that though, but it's hard. :?

Since its so popular with CPGs you score tons of stuff from people doing presentation. But I think that having a lot of events bringing alumni in is an advantage since you get that many more chances to interact with alums.

I have to say - I liked my free Laffy Taffy and free Sam Adams at DAK I (though bad in combination).

A 2nd year was joking that he had a couple dozen nalgene bottles...I think it was a hobby of collecting them. I am sure that stuff is probably pretty common at a lot of schools though.

To nervous and futuredukemba (and anyone else who is deciding between Fuqua and Kellogg) there is a group mailing list specifically for people deciding between Fuqua and Kellogg that was started through the Fuqua yahoo group that you might want to get on (or you might already be on it). There are quite a few people in our boat and the initial comments/opinions of group members seem quite insightful and intelligent. Just another resource to help in the decision making....also, did BDW swing your decision either way?

I posted this in nervous' debate thread but there was actually a few valuable posts on the kellogg thread on BW, specifically with the Duke vs Kellogg debate. Probably some of the same people on your mailing list.
