Question...maybe stupid, but here it goes...
Does anybody know if adcom compare candidates in Round 2 to those accepted in Round 1 at all? Or the candidates will only be compare to those applied in Round 2?

the only dumb question it the one not asked. The adcoms have what they are looking for in candidates, generally its the same round by round. However, R1 is going to be easier because EVERY slot is still open. Since they want a diverse class they take people with varied backgrounds.

Round 2 wont be compared to Round 1 as a whole. However, the final decisions where they are unsure will be compared against WL students. It may well be the R1 WL is a stronger candidate and they will accept them off the WL and ding the R2 applicant.

I believe my concern is valid. I know friends of the same nationality/background who applied R1 and if they get in, I wanted to know if my R2 seat will be compare against them at all. (Say if they already have an engineer of the same country, will they pick another engineer from that country? and according to you, the answer is "No")

Anyways, not trying to analyze too much.
I'll just have to work harder on my essays :)

Well they do want a diverse class so they aren't going to fill it with engineers from your country...remember there are far fewer R1 applicants. So yes R1 is going to be easier but they aren't going to fill all their slots for any particular profile.

well, unfortunately for me (but good for my friends), two of my friends got in R1 with almost identical profiles as myself. The only difference is what they want to do afterwards and what industry they want to go into. With that as the only differentiating point (we even work at the same company, have the same ethnic background, same schooling, etc...), I really don't know if my chances will be good or not at Kellogg R2...

My interviewer mentioned that Cal is a major feeder school for Kellogg.

haha, based on the schools they applied to, only a Stanford admit for them will take them away from Kellogg. (we all applied to similar schools, just in different order).

I freak out anytime my phone rings from 4 - 6, not good. Of course I am a little disappointed its a friend and not Kellogg, and they can all tell when I answer.

Part 1 is pretty easy but dont underestimate it and leave it to the last day. I believe it has a place to scan transcripts, put job responsibilities, extra curriculars, and biographical info. However, if I remember correctly you dont complete the info for recs until part 2, you may list them in part 1 but you have to get to part 2 to actually have the form sent to them. I think I got to part 2 and sent them the forms before I submitted part 1.
