I am R2 applicant for Kelloggs. In their 4th essay, they haven't mentioned any word limit but just that the essays should be restricted to 2 - 3 paragraphs. Now how long should the paragraphs be? Could the essay be 2 pages long or they expect that to be less or max one page(double spaced)? Any ideas?

I am wondering whether rejects will also be announced or only admits during this month? So, if an application has been considered but rejected, does that mean that the decision will only come on Jan 7?

Hi,

We will be sending out all types of decisions; however, we do usually take a break on deny decisions for several days during the holidays.

Best Regards,
Kristen

That was posted in the BW adcom thread, it looks like early next will be the last batch of dings until after Christmas.

All I want for Christmas is a d@mn unknown call! Is that too much to ask?

The limit on essay 1 is 2 page double spaced; this translates to roughly 6oo words. Am I the only one who is having trouble describing my career progression and "why kellogg" and still meet the max requirement??? Any tips on this?? I just don't see how you can describe everything in within 2 page limit..

Kellogg actually gives you a LOT of ways (too many in my opinion :P) to explain your fit with them (career and otherwise). You can fit up to 800 or so words in 2 pages if you use 11 pt font and tweak some margins (slightly). Otherwise, it's three 2-page essays and two 1-page (2-3 paragraph) essays. That's 3000+ words, more than enough to get any point across (considering Stanford only allows 7 pages and 12 pt font, so way fewer words than Kellogg).

BTW, you can split your "why Kellogg" over the other 4 essays. Most of my career + fit essays are 1000 words (Haas, Stanford, UCLA), so I plan on reducing the "Why Kellogg" part in the first essay and spreading them out to all the other ones.

And then there's Cornell...

We beat the format discussion to death early on in this discussion but here is a quick review.

The adcoms have said they like a minimum of 11pt font and 1" margins all around (1" on top required). 11pt Times new roman gives a lot more words than other fonts but 10pt arial is basically just as readable but fits more words. I wouldn't screw with line spacing or margins beyond 1" (unless you go to like .9 on one side).

Mine were 1" all around, with 10pt arial font, double spaced. Obviously my 10pt font didnt hurt and they could read it since I got admitted. An interesting note, I did mine on a mac, if I saved it as a .doc and opened it in windows it went over length for some reason. So I saved them all as .pdfs.

Mine were 11 font, times new roman. 0.5' margins on the side. and i got in...as long it looks nice and is clearly read-able, you are fine.

thanks river and MGO, that's good to hear that you both got in with minor tweaks to the requirements (font and margins).

Just want to add mine...

My margins were 1" on top, 0.7" on bottom, and 0.79" on the sides with 12 Times Roman font and 1.7 paragraph spacing. This format will fit ~800 words each. I did this for all my essays. I would advise to just be consistent for all your essays and make sure the formatting looks nice and easy to read.

Also, inline with Kellogg instructions, don't forget to paste the essay topics at the top of each of your essays and include page numberings.

Hey guys, do you have to fill out a birthday when you register them online??

Basically, when I registered my recommender online to send them the email, I remember being asked for the person's birthday. The directions were vague, but I quickly assumed it was my recommender's bday they wanted. I thought it was weird but didn't think too much about it. So I asked my recommender for his bday, registered it and didn't think about it.

Now my recommender says in the email he got, it used his birthday as mine...?? It says something like, "this is a recommendation request for X candidate with Y birthday." With X being my name, and Y being his bday.

So I was supposed to enter my own birthday in that box?? WHY?? that is so illogical..i mean we have other locations where enter our own bday. The intructions are extremely unclear. Why would I enter someone's name, and then enter my own bday, its just WEIRD.

Thanks.
