I think im going to stick to first person too as i'm more comfortable with that and it lets me discuss in depth 1-2 aspects of my file .
Are you going over all aspects of your file or also only tackling 1-2 key areas which you think your peers value and that you havent addressed elsewhere?
I'm actually falling into the trap of following the framing of the question and writing a 3rd person evaluation of my resume for 2 reasons:
1) I'm explicitly stating the conclusions that I want the student member of the adcom (and thus the actual adcom) to deduce based upon the information in my resume. All of which are directly connected to my "personal brand" and haven't been touched upon in any of the other essays.
2) Such an approach demonstrates a small degree of creativity and variety in essay format. It becomes boring and repetitive to the reader if all of your essay responses are 1st person narratives (the 3rd essay is the most logical one to do this). In all of my applications I'm mixing in at least one wrinkle: a 3rd person review or actually telling a story.
