Anyone get this email?

"You know that business today demands everything you've got. And by applying to Kellogg, you're taking the first big step to be ready for every opportunity.

At Kellogg you'll gain the leadership tools that let you turn ideas into action. You'll never feel more alive than when you combine your passion for making a difference with the management skills to make it happen.

Just ask Kellogg grad and entrepreneur Jonathan Miller '08 who successfully negotiated a lucrative investment for his business during a recent appearance on ABC's "Shark Tank."

Like Miller, our newest MBA students are rolling up their sleeves and working hard to pursue their dreams. Already they are fully immersed in our curriculum, which offers both the breadth and depth to advance them into a career with real impact. Our commitment to academic excellence, innovation and collaborative learning is why Kellogg is among the world's most prestigious leadership schools.

These strengths are also what prepared Miller to survive the "sharks."

In fact, for more than a century now, Kellogg has provided the tools that create exceptional leaders - people who put their talent to work in ways that make the world a better place.

As you continue your own unique journey, Kellogg Admissions is here to help.

Sincerely,

Beth Flye
Assistant Dean, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid
Kellogg School of Management"

Yep, I got the same one.

Got the same email. I'm wondering if its because I selected 'Entrepreneurship' as one of my majors of interest in the application form.

So here's an interesting question: let's say you've got your alum interview, at the alum's office. The day before, he drops you a note confirming the time and place, and also lets you know that the entire office is wearing jeans for the week for a charity drive.

Do you dress up still, or do you do a hybrid getup where you've got the suit coat, shirt and tie, but throw jeans on .... or lose the tie altogether ?

I'm leaning towards option 1. What do you folks think ?

I'll give you a little glimpse into my head, these are the sorts of crazy things that play out in my head daily...

The first thing I think is, ha, this guy is trying to trick me, I'm wearing a suit. Then, I think, but what if it's not a trick, better go business casual. Then, I think well, shoot, he just about told me to wear jeans, I don't want to be the only one not wearing jeans, I'll wear my "nice" jeans. But wait, this guy is gonna think I'm a schmuck if I wear jeans, this is the point where a hybrid method would come into my head...but it would come out all wrong (like some of the NFL announcers recently, btw a checkered jacket does not go with a striped shirt and polka dot tie). Then, I'd think, well shoot, this guy wasn't telling me to dress casual at all, he was saying, by the way, bring money for my charity drive. So with my luck, I'd show up dressed in a suit, with a big fat check that looked like it was probably a bribe.

But in all seriousness, I would just do business casual.

Oddly enough, thats the exact same thought process I went through ! :)

I had this great suit and shirt combo picked out, and polished my shoes n all ... shucks :)

What is business casual anyways ? Is it the jacket, with a shirt, no tie, and nice jeans (do I even have those?), along with black shoes ?

Which brings me back to my point: kellogg's alumni interviews are too casual and unprofessional. a friend of mine was asked to interview at the alum's apartment complex, in the conference room, last week. They should know how to conduct a freakin business school interview without pulling these stupid stunts and keeping you guessing about what to wear.
What's the next step? Alums saying, " hey I am gonna be at my two-year old's day care center. Can you interview there"?

So if I am interviewing on a Saturday at a Starbucks....does that call for a suit? (I was planning on it)

I personally think, wherever the Interview is, I'd wear a suit. But that's me.

There's an easy way to solve this...e-mail him back and say, when you talked about jeans, were you suggesting I wear jeans or just that I bring a donation? Just kidding...I wouldn't think that you even need a jacket, but if you wore one you could always take it off. I wouldn't wear jeans, what if their charity drive fails, you may be the only one in jeans :-D . It's kind of like dressing in layers, you can always take something off.

Hmm, I think it might depend on the Starbucks for me...there are some I would definitely feel awkward in a suit at. Really, they should realize we are all agonizing over every detail, tell you what they'll be wearing and give a strong suggestion for whether you should follow suit - haha pun not intended.
