So if I am interviewing on a Saturday at a Starbucks....does that call for a suit? (I was planning on it)
I personally think, wherever the Interview is, I'd wear a suit. But that's me.

Posted from my mobile device

I think it also depends on the weather and whether ur going to interview from your office. :-).

I had my interview in a cafe and went there directly from my office. It would really have looked silly if i was wearing a suit and traveling in subway for 45 mins from office to that place in hot and humid Singapore.

I think most of the B-school interviews really do not impose any guidelines on the attire. Since it depends more on the culture at that location and also the alumni ( if he is a top executive in banking, ya wear a suit. the banking industry is more rigid in the dress code than others.)

Which brings me back to my point: kellogg's alumni interviews are too casual and unprofessional. a friend of mine was asked to interview at the alum's apartment complex, in the conference room, last week. They should know how to conduct a freakin business school interview without pulling these stupid stunts and keeping you guessing about what to wear.
What's the next step? Alums saying, " hey I am gonna be at my two-year old's day care center. Can you interview there"?
I think that is part of the approach. Kellogg prides itself in not being a stuck up place and being much more accessible. Judging by my classmates, I wouldnt worry about what to wear since we aren't going to judge you...though its better to be well put together in casual than looks like crap in a suit.

Honestly, wear a suit if its in a formal place or a shirt and tie if you are worried about the image. You can also decide based on the interviewer what you will wear. If you are in NYC and getting interviewed by a goldman guy you probably want to wear a suit...if you are in the bay area and interviewing with an apple person then casual will work better. Figuring out where alums work is usually pretty easy...Linkedin is an amazing resource for getting some insight on your interviewer.

BTW, personally I think interviewing in a conference room is better than at a coffee place like I did my Booth interview. Less distractions and you dont worry about having the interviewer hear you clearly. Where else are they going to do it? Not their office, thats almost always not allowed and as I said, Starbucks usually isn't the best option.

Hmm true, conference room is much better than Starbucks or a cafe. I didn't know that interviewing someone in your office is a no-no. Thanks for letting me know.

A lot of companies have pretty strict rules on accessing their offices. I know where I worked this summer you had to get a visitors badge and for someone to get you one required people to jump through a number of hoops and also a signoff by management. Heck, I can't even get into my wife's office if I wanted to.

Well, just had my interview with an alum.

He didnt ask me to walk through the resume directly, rather, he focused in on each position, and I explained the transition between them. I did get asked the why MBA, why Kellogg questions, which I think I answered fairly well. I did get asked whether I've worked in teams, and questions like what I did in a given position.

I was asked about the leadership training program that Im a part of at work, and how one gets to participate in the program .... Was asked about a time where I had an idea but it didnt get implemented (I think I could have answered this one much better)

I wasnt asked about my career plans, but I had to weave it into the conversation, and explained a little about WHY i wanted to make that transition.

Sorry, trying to do a massive brain dump here :). All in all, I think it went OK, but I have nothing to really compare it to because this was my first interview. There were definitely questions I think I could have answered better, or would have differently.

Ah well, c'est la vie. Will have to hold tight until I hear more. Good luck to the rest of you doing interviews !!

question - do you all agree that 10% over 600 words will be kosher for the kellogg essays?

I think you should stick to their limits. You really should be able to edit your essay to fit. Just my two cents...

10% is way too much..I went over by about 15 WORDS in a couple essays...I know that Kellogg does not count the nummber of words, but the number of pages and essay length will clearly show it's over the limit.

Trust me you can easily hack the 60 words. There must a be lot of useless words

I would say depending on appearance 10% might not be a huge deal. I would try to stick within 5% if possible but dont worry too much.

As for international interviews if they dont have alums available they will phone interview you if they are considering admitting you but its far too early for that so dont stress.

Just now finished my interview with an alumni. It was nice. I think I did ok with the interview. It was for about 45 minutes and an additional 10mins for my questions.
My set of questions.
1. Talk about 4 things from your resume which you want me to know.
2. Talk about 3 things you learnt in your previous job.
3. Tell me why you want to do MBA.
4. What other colleges are you applying to and which one will you prefer if you get into all of them.
5. What did you like during your college visits?
6. If money is no matter what would you be doing? (From the list of companies I had on my resume)
7. What do I do from the list of extra curricular activities when I have free time and why? I had swimming skiing and racquetball listed on my resume.
8. Do you think I should have asked you anything else?
9. Questions for me ?

These were basically the questions and he spent sometime explaining his previous career/experience in Kellogg/experience after Kellogg.
Overall I think I did well spent abt 2 to 3 hours preparing info from my essays resumes and the college website what I wanted to present and I think I presented them as I wanted to.

Just had my alum interview last night at a SBUX (think large city on the East Coast).
very straightforward. he was VERY nice. we both wore biz casual.

He asked the following questions:

--What kind of leader are you?
--Why did you pick your current job?
--Why the MBA now? Why not a year from now?
--Tell me one thing you learned on you previous project?

Good luck to y'all. My one word of caution: Kellogg alums are going to be excessively nice and chatty. Match their attitude, but don't forget...its still an interview! Don't be too charmed that you start getting sloppy with your word selection and phrasing.

I think its a Kellogg's interview required question. I was asked that too. So for others who haven't yet finished with their interviews, do prepare for it. Its similar to the Essay 2.

I also had the leader question during my on-campus interview and it did take me a little by surprise. My second rec didn't get turned in until this week so I emailed my interviewer asking for a reply if this was going to affect R1 notification. I haven't heard anything back so I'll take it as a sign that everything is still on track for review. :? Regardless it feels good to have the app turned in, both recs in, and interview complete.
