I have posted a request for clarification on the B-school ambassador forum. Hopefully someone will respond soon. :)

I have working on that essay "assuming" for both parts. The same information is given either way and the point in the end is to convey what impact you will make on the Kellogg community.

I had emailed the admissions office with this question but there was no response; hopefully you will get an answer from the ambassadors.

Just submitted my Kellogg Application part II and with it my R1 applications are complete. Instead of being relieved, I am anxious. Why? Because my mornings and evenings have been consumed by GMAT prep and essays since June. Suddenly, I find that there's a void. I have crawl back to a normal life now I guess. ;)

Best of luck to the rest of you. May you be less insane than I am.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those curious, this is the message you get when you submit:

Dear XXXX,

You have submitted Part II of your application to the Kellogg School of Management Full-Time MBA Program.

To confirm receipt of your application materials and for notification of your application decision, please visit Check Application Status on the Kellogg Full-Time Admissions website.

Your application status should change within 1-4 weeks, during which time the admissions staff will process your application and verify receipt of all materials. Your status-check message will confirm if all requirements have been completed. If there are missing application requirements, these items will be listed on the status-check page.

We appreciate the time you have invested to complete your Kellogg application. We look forward to reviewing your materials.

Sincerely,
Kellogg Admissions Team

lol, I finished all of my apps 2 weeks ago and I immediately was overwhelmed with all of the freetime I have.

I spent every waking minute outside of work for the past 3-4 months immersed in the application process. And I agree with you, it feels weird to be done.

I attended a Kellogg admissions event today, and asked the admissions officer my question about the essay. She said it does not matter whether you write it in the first person or third person, but bottomline is they want to gain some new perspective out of it. Just rehashing the info from the resume and other parts of the application may nt be a good idea.

The instructions for this essay are slightly confusing. I believe that this essay is also optional for re-applicants.

Am I right?

Thanks!

4.Complete one of the following three questions or statements. (400 word limit)
Re-applicants have the option to answer a question from this grouping, but this is not required.
a) Describe a time you had to inspire a reluctant individual or group.
b) People may be surprised to learn that I…..
c) The riskiest personal or professional decision I ever made was…..

The way I interpret it is -
a. if you are a first-time applicant, you have to answer one of the three essays
b. if you are a re-applicant, you can answer one of the three essays, but it is not mandatory.

Question for those who have scheduled on-campus interviews:
Did you have multiple time slots (Morning/Afternoon) to chose from?

I am yet to schedule my interview. Was just wondering if I could fly in to Chicago early in the morning for an interview scheduled for that day.

Done with the Kellogg Alumni Interview. It was a very interesting experience. I did not know that I could talk so passionately about myself to a stranger. In the hindsight I wish I had more time to talk, as I felt I couldn't get across all the points about myself. But given the questions that were asked, I am really satisfied with my answers.

The questions were the usual suspects : resume-walk, why MBA, why now, why Kellogg, leadership example, working in a team example, an example when you provided a creative solution to a problem. The questions were not in silos, it was more like a conversation flowing from one point to the other.

That's another hurdle out of the way. Now for refining the essays and waiting for the results :)

Yes. When I called to schedule my interview, I told them the day I wanted and they listed out all of the available time slots.

When I scheduled my interview they had 2 time slots available that day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. So it depends on the day, but I'm planning on flying in the morning of.

Totally possible. I got into O'Hare at 7:15am, I interviewed from 11:00-11:45, and then I flew home at 6:00pm.

My advice, if you have time and want to save money: take the train from the airport to Evanston. It requires one easy transfer and takes about 1.5-2hrs, but it will cost less than $5.00 each way.

You go through downtown Chicago to get to and from the airports, so if you have extra time before your flight home, just jump off the train on your way back for some food/sightseeing/shopping.

Thanks MDF...that helps a lot...That means I would only have to take 1 day off from work....I love Chicago....I might schedule my interview for a Friday and stay there for the weekend. :-D

Cool! Didn't know they did interviews on Saturdays as well! I may not have to take a day off after all.

I know Kellogg doesn't admit on a rolling basis, but is there any advantage of interviewing earlier rather than later?

I would prefer to schedule my on-campus interview late Nov / early Dec just so that I have more time to prepare for it. I have another application (Stern) that is going to keep me busy halfway through Nov.

When I called I was given six or seven slots for the day I wanted. But I also scheduled my interview in mid-September so they may be filling up now. If you want a specific time slot, you should probably try to schedule your interview ASAP just to be safe.
