congrats to everyone with interviews in r1. i spent a weekend at a prospective ross student event and loved it.
i'm working on my essays and wanted to hear advice on the question "If you were not pursuing the career goals you described in Question 1, what profession would you pursue instead? (For example, teacher, musician, athlete, architect, etc.) How will this alternate interest contribute to your effectiveness in solving multidisciplinary problems?" I know there were posts earlier speculating how best to do this, but i'd like to see if thoughts have changed now that your essays are written.
i'm taking the approach of defining my alternate career and speaking about the responsibilities involved. i'm having trouble relating these responsibilities to effectiveness in solving MD problems and i think it may be the wording - "How will this alternate interest contribute to your effectiveness in solving multidisciplinary problems?"
Since this is a hypothetical situation, should i talk about it as "In pursuing xfantasycareer, I would have acquired skills x and y, which would enable me to solve challenges in any situation..."?
thanks!
this question like most others does not have a right answer or wrong...(yeah i am sure this is not the answer u are looking for!!)
so let me just tell you what i did..
i chose an alternate profession that was an EC/hobby for me and aligned well with my career choice... so my essay had a lot of examples from the past.showing my proven committment to it and it also spoke of how i can leverage it in future to solve multi disciplinary problems...
now coming onto "multi-disciplinary".. this has been discussed quite a bit on this thread in the past... it could mean anything from different functions of running a business to the multi disciplinary issues an athlete has to deal with (stress..stamina...concentration...competition etc)
I'm also done with my interview... not something I'm very excited about...I wish I had done better..
my questions-
resume walk through
why mba
why ross
what associations you have built with the ross community
how will you contribute to ross
team failure
leadership eg.
and then a couple of questions for my interviewer.. we spent quite some time discussing the ross community and that was the only (but the highlight) common bonding (for the want of a better word) topic for us in the interview...
so at the end of the 30 mins ( and although I know this is the standard ross practice!) I was pretty disappointed ... its ROSS after all
