Is Ross too strict about word limit in essays?
I don't think they're that strict. I went over the limit on two of my essays and it didn't seem to affect my chances of receiving an interview invitation.

I'm making sure I don't exceed the word limit by more than 5%.

Is it safe to assume that since you got an interview invite, your essays have been reviewed?

Yeah, I think that's a safe assumption.

So, the ultimate decision will be made based on the interview feedback now?

I think that's the million dollar question. Does one's fate rest with the interview or has an applicant's acceptance/rejection already been decided going into the interview?

close to 100% of accepted students interview, so it's a key component of the acceptance. however, i'm sure it's again taken into consideration with the rest of the application once the interview is completed. one can assume that if they already filtered out people to interview, then the interview will be another important filtering tool. but i don't think you can say that it now rests solely on the interview. probably doesn't give you the answer you're looking for, but there probably isn't much that speculating will do except keep you from thinking about anything else! so relax (or try to) and just wait to see what happens.

I am pretty sure no one gets in without an interview. Generally, the interviews have not been a very significant factor in the decisions, but I assume they will be more significant in ultra-competitive years such as this.

I am overwhelmed by how hard it seems to get in! I am 34(!), 730 GMAT, modest EC's.

Is there any reason to feel any hope?

Still struggling with essays:
For challenging time: could I write about accident I had couple of years ago...
For alternate career: I was thinking do they want to see teacher etc kind of thing that is way different or can I say PhD in Engg in a field I can tie with my interest?

Seeing everyone here with scores just as good and younger, why will they take me...I am struggling to answer this one!

If u r an Indian applicant,it can be difficult, esp with an engg background.

For the challanege essay,I talked abt a time when I had a health isssue.
For alternate career,I talked about being a teacher.

With an Indian/IT background,it will be difficult unless u have some amazing leadership exp.European schools tend to prefer older applicants.

But what challenge would you face that you could do something about? I mean sure u would be under physical/mental pressure...but what actions would be reqd by u except hoping all goes well?

It is more about what u learnt from that challenging experience and how it changed your life.

What about Q3 - If you were not pursuing the career goals ...?

Did you guys mostly go with non-professional goals...I am thinking PhD career but my concern is it doesn't reflect another side of my personality esp considering that my background is Indian engg/IT.

I know I am late with these q's...so thanks for all the input, folks.
