But in the waitlist webinar they did mention they will come back to us by January end

and waitlisted in R1 is basically going into the pool with R2

Well good luck then! From what I know based on a campus visit, waitlist without interview typically doesn’t bode well. Waitlists after interview have some chance of admit

like 2 years back

Does anyone know if they sent out R1 interview invites at once or in batches?

As per R1, all invites were sent in one batch whereas I received my waitlist invite later

R1 waitlist w/out interview are reassessed with the candidate pool of R2. If found competitive, they are invited to interview with the rest of the R2 invited candidates. As for it being unfair, just to let you know, more candidates are admitted in R2 than in R1. Also, R2 is the biggest round as well.

They sent out all the invites for R2 today, starting from 5 pm till 6 pm.
I got mine at 5:12 pm EST

You have 15 days to complete the interviews, till 15th February
