So... I just saw this video today:
https://youtu.be/spX2Lba5mEIAt 8:43, Rod Garcia mentions that the single most important advice he can give is for us to visit the school. Does anyone here know how important is that? I didn't visit the school and feel slightly uncomfortable about whether I wrote "from the heart" or not. I don't know about what everyone's vacation schedule is like... But I only have 10 days of vacation a year, and I don't think visiting ANY school is possible outside of the interviews. Nevertheless, I did do thorough research and wrote what I believe were very Sloan-specific essays.
Thoughts?
Hi there. I tend to think that schools appreciate that not everyone can get to visit them, due to distance or other commitments, so don't sweat it.
I would advise to go there for your interview though, more for your sake than anything else. In the meantime, you can reach out to current students and alums and form an accurate opinion of student life there, certainly enough to write your essays with a Sloan-specific focus.
Fyi I visited HBS and MIT Sloan last Spring and was blown away by the energy and collaborative spirit at Sloan - it made me realise that I really wanted to be there!
Best of luck with your application!
