This is one of the quietest boards in the whole "Business School Discussions" section...

Does anyone know how generous Stern is in terms of financial aid for international students?

I agree we need to liven it up! I'm applying through the Consortium, but I'm almost done with my Stern essay. It's just in review with my outside reader. Then I'll be done. I just want all the applications in so I can relax until December.

Applying for Round 1, I take it?

Stern promises to send the initial notification by December 15, but how soon can one realistically expect to hear back from them?
I'd love to know before Christmas where I'll be going next year :-D

My question is what does "initial notification" even mean? Acceptances and Rejections? Interviews? Notices to wish us Happy Holidays?

That's for the interview invitations... The longest wait I guess

I just did some googling and it seems that after the interview, you find out whether you were accepted or rejected within 2 weeks. At least it's a fast turn around after that. I guess the goal is to get an interview in as soon as possible.

Stern has very specific formatting guidelines for the essays but I cannot find any recommendations regarding the length and format of the resume. Does it have to be 1 page or can it be 2? What font and margins should be used?

Hello all! Our Clear Admit journalist just interviewed Isser Gallogly, the assistant dean of MBA admissions at Stern. He shared some details of Stern's MBA program that he thinks applicants may not know. He also provided valuable insider information about how NYU Stern evaluates it's candidates, including the emphasis Stern places on admissions interviews. You can read his advice on our blog: https://blog.clearadmit.com/2014/09/admissions-director-qa-isser-gallogly-new-york-universitys-stern-school-business/#more-51121

Some interesting points from the above article:

Quote:
We do provide initial notification deadlines as to when we will get back to you, but typically that’s the latest possible date and we try to get out our initial notifications as soon as we have them. We recognize that this is an anxious process, and we don’t make people wait unnecessarily.

Looks like we'll be anxious for the whole month of December, instead of just one day.

Quote:
About 20 to 25 percent of applicants are invited in for an interview. This means that we are not going to waste anyone’s time. Almost all of those interviews happen in New York City with one of our admissions professionals.

I always tell people that if you are applying to Stern, set aside the time and money to travel to New York and interview. We take it very seriously.

The interview is not blind.

Makes we wonder how they evaluate students that are unable to travel to NYC, especially since it's around the holidays.

Quote:
We typically admit between 60 to 70 percent of those who were interviewed.

Great news if you do get an interview invite!

I'm fairly certain that there aren't strict font and margin requirements other than be reasonable. Make sure it's a font that doesn't require a magnifying glass. Have some margins. Although I do think the general consensus is that your resume should only be 1 page. There are many applicants with a lot of jobs and achievements, but very few require more than one page.

I know there are some good threads in the B-School Application Section. Here are a couple:
