AA and KK are not only the best starting hands, but are the most profitable hands by far (and in that order). They are orders of magnitude more profitable than others. I'll take AA every time over any other two cards, in any situation (deep stacked/short stacked, tournament/cash, early position/late position, heads up/lots of limpers).

AA is tough to the extent that it is a good hand that probably won't improve. It forces you to be comfortable playing big pots with nothing more than a single pair. A lot of players would rather have something like a suited connector that will only play a big pot if it improves to a hand like a flush or straight -- it allows them to fold comfortably if their hand hasn't improved.

But I digress...

Hehe true. Agreed. I don't want to turn this into TwoplusTwo.com I'm sure we'll play when the time comes.

Digression is good. This wait has been stressful.

do all the interview invite emails come out at one time everyday, like booth? can those who have received tell us what the time stamp is?

i'd like to only be neurotic for a couple of mins versus all day if possible...

I received mine today around 10am EST. I think the other person who got an invite today posted around noonish, so I think there was a morning deployment. but thats just 2 people so I wouldn't read into it.

I know I am kind of being a debbie downer. Sorry about that! I have a feeling this forum will keep me sane for the next few months LOL! Congrats to all the interviewees though!

i second that, we just need to stay focused and hope for the best, any top 15 school has crazy, unpredictable standards, we are all nervous but it will work out

i think we try to hard on these forums to crack the interview invite algorithm, i keep asking my friends who are first year students and they all got invites randomly not by geography or submit date or any other method

i think we just have to be confident in ourselves and if we all applied to only schools we would love to go to we can't be overly upset

although of course it hurts to not get admitted to one's dream school, when it comes down to it an MBA from NYU or Columbia or MIT will not have an incredible difference in a few years. Not eomployer is going to read a resume and say oh this person only get his/her MBA at Georgetown or NYU or whatever

Yea so I'm off my soap box now, good luck all

I fully agree with y'all. I would be happy going to any of the schools I applied to. And if dinged, I will try again next year.

Out of curiosity - has anyone done additional post-bach coursework to try to supplement a crappy GPA? I did this (built an alternative transcript) but really have no idea whether it's going to pay off. BTW, writing those "grade explanation" essays suck! :P

i recall visiting Stern in the spring and was not able to sit in on a class because class visits were reserved for those invited to interview.

i wonder if a flood of invites wont be till classes are back in session. if so, enjoy the holidays everyone!

Applied to R1 at about 9pm on Nov. 15. Got the status check email on Nov. 23, but no interview so far. And I'm located in NYC, for those checking whether that matters. I'm not from finance/consulting or any other typical background.

I think my 99 and TJ suited comments were pretty stupid. I worded it pretty bad. I meant to say in ring games AA tends to win small pots (over the hundreds of thousands of hands online my AA won 85% of the time and were indeed overall very profitable). AAs just needed to be proceeded with discipline after flop whereas 99 and TJ can potentially hit a big hand and get paid very well. Anyways, I hope to play some of you guys one day. You will find that I am not quite the donkey I sounded like earlier.

Just another Thursday morning... waiting...

had my interview this morning. it didn't go poorly, but i didn't leave it feeling like it had gone amazing either. i had read all the questions on clearadmit and felt prepared going in. i felt like i fumbled through too many of the questions but maybe i'm just being too hard on myself.

I think they are interviewing their top candidates first i.e. the ones they really want. Does anyone know when deposits are due once you get an admit?

Not that this will change anything, but does anyone know how much NYU weights UG GPA? I know the Ivys are always sticklers for that...
