Hello Everyone,

Congratulations to all those who got admitted.

I am a R2 applicant based in India. I still haven't heard from the adcom but quite hopeful to get a call.

I have a query with respect to the interview, which i believe is conducted on-campus throughout the admissions process. Since i am based in India and don't have a US visa, i am bit skeptical to get a visa on a short notice, if i get an interview invite. Does adcom consider this point in making the decision?

Regards

I am an R2 applicant too and have my interview on Monday 12th March in Mumbai.
My guess is that if you receive an invite after this point, you would have to make the trip to NYC or they might accomodate you over a phone interview.

Hey whirlwind,
I am interviewing in Mumbai on Monday too. Best of luck for it if we don't bump in.

Hey guys..ATB for your interviews. Are these Stern AdCom interviews or are these interviews with Alums?

Also, kindly post your interview experiences once they are done

For admitted students, how long did it take to receive the admission packet in the mail after you got your acceptance letter online?

Should people who didn't get invited yet still hope for the invitation at this point? I'm losing hope for Stern now.

I think they drop it in the mail the day they call you, so it depends how close you are. It just took a couple days for me. Are you planning on attending?

does anyone know if stern offers student-led trips to various parts of the world before school starts in order to get to know your classmates better? i know ross has m-trek, booth has random walks, and kellogg has kwest. i'd really love it if stern had something similar but it doesn't seem like it does since i can't really find anything.

Re: Stern 2012 - Calling All Applicants [#permalink]
Had my interview today with a member of the AdCom in Mumbai...very different than the other interviews that I have given till date.

The interviewer had gone through my file so asked very specific and interesting questions. A few curve balls along the way but thoroughly enjoyable. I probably didn't answer the why NYU Stern question well enough (atleast that's what I felt). The interviewer was reacting positively but can't read too much into that.

The 2-3 week wait starts! :|

Anyone else want to share their experience from today?

Hi everyone!
A question to all international applicants. How did you provide the self reported trascript? Where I come from we have no GPA's and I haven't got any class rankings in my degree. And ofcourse my grades are in a different system (3 passing grades). At the same time NYU write: "List the grade or mark for each course exactly as it appears on your official transcript. Do not reinterpret grades or convert grades to a different scale." As i understand I just need to leave the grades in the 3 grade system. But am I supposed to just leave the GPA and the class ranking blank? should I write something about this in essay 4?
Would be thankful for some help. thanks

Anneb, congratulations! I, too, recently got accepted to Stern. I was wondering how or when I'd find out if I would be part of the Summer Start. How was this communicated to you? Did your welcome package explicitly say this or were you told on the phone?

I applied R2 and got an invite yesterday- for the summer start program. It's for people who have been out of school for a long time or who have low quant skills and high soft skills.
I was surprised and pleased to get an invite so late in the game.
I guess there is still hope! Best of luck to everyone who is waiting. I am so anxious to get this process over with.

Do you mind sharing your work experience?

Hi BHead-

I work for a small high end fashion shoe company- running all their retail and marketing operations, involving some domestic and int'l travel. I've been there 5 years and was a fashion buyer in SF for 3 years prior to that. I studied architecture for undergrad at UC Berkeley.

It is way way up there on my list, but I want to see what all my options are before fully commiting

Hi leonidisss,

I was in a similar situation. If it helps, what I did was writing the possible grades (in my language) in the "What is the marking or grading scale (i.e., A-F, 0-100) used at your academic institution?" box, and then fill the courses section using these original grades. For GPA I wrote the score shown in my transcript, which is not equivalent to the American GPA at all. For "Rank in Class" I wrote "Unknown".

I made it to the interview and the AdCom member didn't mention any problems related to that. I think they are kind of flexible with international students. I heard from other schools that they even ask a current student from your country to help them evaluate your academic transcript.

I hope this will help you. In any case, you can just send them an email asking about this and I am sure they will give you an answer. Best luck with your application!

Your answer was for sure helpful. How did your interview go by the way? how long have you waited for them to call you for an interview?

Just had my interview in Shanghai. My interviewer both works in the adcom office and is doing a part time MBA at NYU, which made for a really nice dynamic. She was very knowledgeable about the programs and able to provide a pretty clear picture of what it's like to be a student.

The interview itself was friendly and conversational, with a strong focus on Stern.

all in all, a nice experience. Now just keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck to all of your interviewing or waiting for official replies

when my stern interviewer greeted me, I just said, i am so excited about this interview for lbs.. then corrected.

the interview went well, with no questions on what other schools at all. have I completely ruined my chances?

Waitlisted! Didn't expect that. I got a full scholarship from Babson so I think Stern is out for me at this point. Especially since their "no co-signer loan" is only for $20K (sneaky buggers), so not sure how I could have paid for it all anyway.
