depends more on the overall profile. But an improved GMAT score will never hurt.

I know someone who got in with a 600 GMAT last year but they had a phenomenal profile. If you think your profile can cover for your low GMAT score then by all means go ahead and leverage the essay to write about why you have a low GMAT score and how it is not a hinderance in the professional prowess that you will bring to Schulich.
