So it's Palo Alto or Chicago for me. Can't wail 'til Tuesday! Does anyone know the percentage of interviewed applicants that are offered admission? There's a discouraging quote on the interview invitation:

"Given the overall strength of the applicant pool, however, we expect that the majority of candidates interviewed will not be offered admission. We say this not to be discouraging or mean-spirited, but to highlight the reality of a highly selective admission process."

At the same time, Derrick Bolton mentioned in an article on Poets&Quants:

"We interview about 1,000 applicants year, plus or minus 100. We accept 450 to 500 people in a typical year. So your odds are about 50-50."

Which one is it?

49% accepted means the majority were denied, but it's still about 50-50.

P&Q had an article where they were assuming 1,100 interviews and 475 acceptances leading to a rate of 43%, which I could easily see Bolton rounding up. I'm guessing the final acceptance rate is in the 40-50% range.

No it doesn't. You need to get that defeatist mentality out of your head and be your best at your Stanford interview. The applications for these schools are so different that the same candidate can look very different at H, S and W. Plus, these schools place emphasis on different qualities/experiences in candidates. This process is a total hit or miss. I have seen people WL at Wharton but accepted at MIT Sloan. I have also seen people WL at Wharton but accepted at Harvard. Or rejected at Sloan and accepted at Harvard. In summary, how you perform at one school is no indication of how you will do at the rest. As a rule, certain schools are harder to get into; certainly HBS and Stanford are at the top of the pack. But, there is still a lot of unpredictability when you are talking H, S, W, and Sloan and perhaps even CBS, Booth and Kellogg and like I said, the applications are very different. Good luck!!

I know a woman from these forums who was dinged by Kellogg but accepted to Stanford. Every school is different. I just hope I didn't use up all my good luck with Wharton!

I would concur. I've been lucky and accepted at Booth and Wharton, but dinged from Kellogg. Think back to your GMAT prep - admissions to schools are independent events!

Yeah, I'm a guy who got dinged by Sloan but interviewed by Harvard. And with my engineering background, I would have expected it to be the other way around. It's really hard to figure out why a school wants you or doesn't, and how they figure you're background will round out the class profile.

Just assume they want you - and they're just interviewing you to confirm that you match your written profile!

Same here. Don't worry! The schools don't care where you've been accepted or rejected. They will look at your application and decide for themselves. Some applications let you share your story better than others. Stanford is a super competitive school, if they thought you weren't a great candidate you wouldn't have gotten an interview. We should be just fine!

rpratt620 - I was put on the WL during round 1 without an interview and was only finally invited to interview a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if this is the same process they follow during Round 2 however.

Good luck everyone!

Different schools are different, so be positive. You'll feel more confident and do your best at the interview.

Best of luck then.
