How good are my chances at Terry?

GMAT:
680 (46V; 35Q)

Education:
Regional university
GPA: 3.81 (Magna Cum Laude)
Major: English with Secondary Education Certification.

Work Experience:
5 years teaching high school English

Extracurriculars, activities and honors:
Chapter president of Sigma Tau Delta
One of two hand-selected by university president to serve as research assistant
Resident assistant
Anthropology tutor
Songwriting and home recording (>5 hours a week; listed this as my most "important" extracurricular pursuit)
Analog photography
30 hours of community service in college (no official community service while working)
Dean's or President's List every semester of college but one

Recommendations:
Probably average. I asked a current supervisor and former mentor/current colleague to complete them for me; one did it in just 2 hours, the other forgot and turned it in the day it was due. I'd expect both to have positive things to say about me, but their letters probably aren't detailed.

Essays:
My writing is definitely well above average, but, as a teacher, my essays predictably focused more on my "soft skills" than quantifiable results at my workplace. I used the optional essay to address my lack of a background in quantitative reasoning and described my experience studying for GMAT to overcome this weakness.

Demographics:
White, male, gay.

Thoughts: My GPA and overall GMAT score are both higher than Terry's average, but I am not sure if this is enough to overcome my unconventional work experience and weak background in quantitative reasoning. I only took GMAT once - should I retake and send updated score, or try out GRE? Or might the admissions committee see my unusual application as a strength?

As you pointed out, quant score is the only parameter that is concerning in your profile. The rest of the profile is, in every way, positive. If I were you, I would give gmat a try and may be use the optional essay to address quantitative skills if you had taken advanced math during undergrad. Quant weakness is not something that admissions team overlooks

I applied R2 a few days ago. Does anyone know the typical turnaround time for interview requests for Terry? Trying to manage expectations.

Hey R1 admitted students, can you shed some light on how long does it take to get a decision after the interview? Do they issue decisions only on the decision date?

They released the decision exactly on the same day mentioned on the website for round 1.
For those of you wondering abt the interview turnover period after round 2 deadline - I attended a webinar a couple of weeks ago and the Director mentioned that they would start sending interview invites in early Feb.

I guess you have a reasonable chance with your score. 680 is a great test score. Personally, I had received a test waiver due to my accounting certification.
I did not have adequate quant coverage in my undergrad transcript. Therefore, I had completed the MBA Math in advance to strengthen my quant profile and submitted the transcript with the application. I also did an intro course on stats from coursera (stanford, approx 5-6 hrs i guess) and mentioned that on my optional essay, along with the experiences that highlighted my quant background. Instead of writing the GMAT, I shot for the waiver and improved other areas of the application.
Be positive !
