In for R2!! just hit submit!

Here's a suggestion to everyone -- make sure the end of your essay doesnt carry on to the next page, bc when it prints out in packet form, you dont want your last 'punch' line to be on the next page. To do this, I just took out repeating the prompt at the top. If you look at the PDF before you submit, you can see that the essays have a memory jogger at the top for the adcom anyways.

Is it a good idea to talk about employment gap of 7 months (because I was moving across coasts, and took courses at a university during summer) in the "extenuating circumstances" essay. It's 250 words essay - but even if one needed to address the gap, one could do so in a line or two, right

Probably. I used that essay to discuss why my bonus was low during my second year in investment banking (because I had accepted a position elsewhere and everyone knew)...definitely doesn't have to hit the word limit (or come close)...mine was like 4 sentences or something.

Guys,

What if my recommenders submit their recommendations after the dead-line?
I was told that 5-7 days is fine. No?

hey everyone, i have a question for the lauder people. I'm just about done with all of my 4200words over 6 essays and shopped my essays to friends who have an MBA or currently in school right now for edits/thoughts. some had strong views that my lauder challenge essay was not as strong. this is freaking me out a little bit but these people only really understand traditional bschool essays, not necessary lauder

Reading back across my essays, it seems that my lauder -challenging experience essay has a distinct different style than the other ones. I tried to use that space to give an intro to my unique background and answered the question from that perspective. my challenge wasnt one specific experience by the path towards gaining the ability to think in the foreign language.

any thoughts on tone/style and your lauder essays would be helpful!

thanks jmw125. i was concerned about the word limit of 250 words, and since they call it an essay, i started thinking that just a few lines may not look good. Further, someone told me that any optional essay if attempted is given just as much weight as regular essay.

Kind of confused about conflicting information on this one. I would love to simply do a line or two and be done on this essay.

Is it okay only to list major employers in the given space in online app, and other can be filled out in word sheet? Shouldn't matter as long as all the information is there.

I have taken both GMAT and GRE and have strong scores (90% verbal). However, my AWA score in both is 4.0 and that is pretty low.

Should I not list the GRE score, so only one 4.0 AWA would not look as bad as two 4.0 AWA? You don't need to list both scores, just the stronger of the two should be enough.

Also: what is the work # in the employment history; these details look like too much for wharton to care about? Do applicants usually fill out these details? Your employers phone number - the number you'd see if you looked them up on google.
[

Does it mean one does not necessarily need to report all standardized tests? If so, which one is better to report, gmat or gre. I have taken GMAT once, and GRE twice. Online application is not clear about it.

Work # in this context was something related to employee number and not the phone number. Why'd they want to know that.

No you don't need to report all standardized tests because they don't specifically ask you if you took the GRE. If they did then you would have to. I've taken the GRE and GMAT but only reported the GMAT score on the application because the GRE score wouldn't add anything more to my application since my GMAT score was on par. There are many things on the application that come down to your own judgment - its really your call which to report or whether to report both.

I can't remember the work # question on the application - is it a required field?

In the employment section, does not look like any field is required. It says "Work # or PIN number" -
If your company uses an automated verification system to track your employment please give your work # code

Just to confirm, for international applicants the entire page on Personal Information III including the information about disability and family income must be left alone right?

I see the confusion but I would have to disagree. The disability/poverty portion seems to be separated off into its own section. In any case, I cannot see how answering these questions could hurt your application. On the printed application, I don't think these responses even show up on the PDF.

I was chatting with my recommender over lunch when he talked about his response to the wharton question: "Provide an example of a time when the applicant did not meet expectations. What was the outcome? How did s/he handle the setback?".

He said that I always met expectations and that he did not recall any instance when I did not. So he is going to submit his answer stating just that.

Is there something wrong with this approach? I agree that it is wrong to manufacture a "failure" for the question, but could the ad-com look at this unfavorably? I could ask my recommender to try to think if something comes to mind.

Thanks

Personally, I think it would be a missed opportunity to blatantly not answer the question with something. No one is perfect and it is important to show you are "human" and more so that you are capable of learning from constructive feedback. Your recommender could consider saying something such as "I cannot think of a time where kt2011 blatantly did not meet expectations, however, I can provide another example where I provided constructive feedback that she was very receptive to and immediately worked on.."
