Another question: In the Awards/Honors section, I list out a few, but the final PDF version cuts it off after a few lines (I am still within the character count). Does the adcom get to see the same PDF version as mine? Anyone seen this?

I see this truncating happening also with my parent's degrees, it cuts it off although there is still space to type..

That's an issue with the application system they use and they acknowledge the issue in the help FAQ within the application portal - I had the same issue as well - according to the help FAQ the application reviewer can see the complete information anytime by logging in to the database if the print out truncates the full response.

Thanks staind. But I wonder if they would actually take the time to logon and check.. I mean would they have the time to do so.. Perhaps it is best to fit it in the view that print PDF shows..

Only thing I've heard about AWA is that they use it to compare to your essays. Which I think is dumb if they do - so a low AWA person isnt supposed to run it by a proofreader and is instead 'supposed' to have grammatical errors?

Silly adcoms.

I asked about his AWA score because if he gets a score of 6 then that will help balance out the lower TOEFL score.

I wouldn't leave out information if you thought it was helpful for your contribution. If you have notable awards worth mentioning you should definitely keep them in there - you're better off with having it in there than not having it there at all. I doubt they would penalize anyone for the truncated responses because its a common issue for all applications.

Anyway in my opinion although I think 100 is low, if they are really interested in you they will admit you. If they think TOEFL is not enough they will require you to take it again, or to take some English courses or whatever before the MBA.
I’ll buy you a drink if it works this way :)

I have no clue on the "honest truth" but I doubt it will matter as much since you scored 40 on the V. Do you mind sharing your Verbal percentile and your AWA score? That would throw some light on how they might perceive your situation. Also, if they are solely worried about your English my guess is (and its only a guess really) that they would at minimum at least interview you to see how you perform on that.
Quant Percentile = 93
Verbal Percentile = 91
Total Percentile = 97

AWA is not yet released, but since I’ve taken the test on December 25th, I hope it will come this Monday or Tuesday, just prior the dead-line. Hopefully, GMAC does not celebrate New Year very long.

You did better on the verbal than 91% of people who took the GMAT in the last two years (I think thats the time frame it compares against) - so hopefully that will cross out any doubts based on the lower TOEFL score.

(1) In the online application, what is the difference between

(A) Awards section under Education

and

(B) Awards under General Information (List the most significant college, university, community and professional awards, honors or scholarships you have received.)

It seems that everything under (A) would also apply to (B) as well. Is it really necessay to repeat this information?

(2) How are you handling the dates (mm/yyyy) for jobs/activities that are still ongoing? The form requires a date entry, so I don't know if I should use the current date or "expected" end date.

(3) My transcript looks like garbage when scanned (it has watermarks that show up when copied). Is the Wharton excel template the only other option?

(1) I repeated the same information in my application.

(2) I didn't have this issue - put the current date or the expected end date if you know it - not really a big deal.

(3) Mine had pretty heavy watermarks as well but it was still readable to some extent - did you maximize the pixels and quality when you scanned it? Can you get an unofficial copy without watermarks? If it is really completely unreadable, go with the excel template.

I had the same question for #1. The Wharton online forum seems to suggest that the second "awards" section is just an additional opportunity for anything that couldn't fit in the first one. I don't think the ad-com wants you to repeat your information - they have enough information to read from 7000 or so applicant that i would imagine they wouldn't intentionally build in redundancy.

Per the Warton website:
Essay Questions
Please upload a separate Word document for each essay question. Be sure to include your full name, user login, and essay question at the top of each document.

Did you guys do this? I have found that the applyyourself website automatically adds the name and essay question to the PDF upload.
I just had the question at the top. No name or user id or anything.

Should we upload the resume in Word ? or can that be done as pdf ?

I would PDF everything and then upload it so ou know nothing happened to the formatting because of their system. I had some issues when i uploaded word docs so only did PDFs

Guys,
an unusual situation:

I'm an international prospective student with decent GMAT=750(Q50,V40) but mediocre TOEFL=100.

According to the Adcoms, Wharton does not have any cut-off score for the Toefl, but its average is 113 and
many schools, including Booth, have 104 and 109 cut-off scores. So, I'm a little nervous because of my TOEFL.

The question is: do you know the "honest truth" how Wharton's Adcoms will treat my TOEFL, and what can I do
to help them decide that I'm the man they need? Essays, resume and recommendations are up to the point!

If I were in your shoes, I would re-take TOEFL and get at least the average score for Wharton. You gotta have stellar exam scores to get in, no less. While your GMAT is exactly that, the mediocre TOEFL could be a slap in the face to the "hard numbers" in your application.

As a former Wharton Omnicom Fellow, I can say that no international applicant wants the school to even slightly question their ability to communicate effectively in English.

Guys,

What length of the Resume is better for Wharton?
1 page or 2 pages?

Thank you and happy NY!
1 page is standard practice; very safe - definitely do a 1-pager if in doubt.
2 pages are nonstandard, but acceptable.
Keep in mind that two-pagers cause damage in 100% of cases, but the key here is to look at your application holistically and decide if the benefit of adding an extra page is much greater, than the damage of having non-standard resume as part of the application.

Does one have to add "please do not hesitate to contact me for questions" at the end of last rec question. I know it is common in academia but mba recs I do not know.
It does not make any difference. Schools expect recommenders to be open for conversation, may it be needed.

I am pretty sure recommenders are asked to provide contact information somewhere in the system and the school sometimes reaches out to these people. In addition, Kroll surely does that as part of the background check for those who accept admission.

Does the employment page in online application need to filled out chronologically?
- I had an employment this year for a brief period of 3 months. Do I need to list that?
- I had 6 months of unemployment this year because I was planning a move to different state.
Is it okay only to list major employers in the given space in online app, and other can be filled out in word sheet?

I have taken both GMAT and GRE and have strong scores (90% verbal). However, my AWA score in both is 4.0 and that is pretty low.

Should I not list the GRE score, so only one 4.0 AWA would not look as bad as two 4.0 AWA?

Also: what is the work # in the employment history; these details look like too much for wharton to care about? Do applicants usually fill out these details?

In the job_duties section of online application the space is for ~1600 chars roughly equal to 175 words. That's much more than the job_duties anyone would have listed on a 1-page resume. How long should job duties be in online app?

I am assuming resume is 12pt font single spaced. Is that ok?

It varies from person to person, but when you say "awards", what are the typical awards people talking about? I did not go through american education system so not sure what the level of award they are talking about..Do high school awards count?

What's on your business card. I went with what is on my bcard, over the official HR job title.

Essay question, on the failure question, I talked about a time that I didn't get a job that I applied for. In a sense, I failed to get the job. Hypothetically, that response could also apply to a question asking to describe a time when I was frustrated or dissapointed.

Is wharton going more for time when you were "part" of a failure? As in a failure that involved others too? Failed acquisition? Product launch that failed? etc?
