I had a weird wharton interview with an alum and am not sure what to do - or can I do anything? basically the interviewer told me that they are not familiar with wharton right now, cannot tell me much about it but had a sense that I would prefer other programs. was really disinterested both in me and in wharton. did not ask behavioral questions! I am worried about the review and feel it was somewhat unfair. don't want to be a complainer but wouldn't wharton want to know?

for any school and wharton
what is the weight of interview in the overall procedure..
so lets say if you did extremely bad in the interview would that necessary mean you will be dinged or in other case if you did extremely well would that mean you will be accepted for sure.

I had a terrible phone interview with another school. (phone interviews are very hard especially if you are international) should I forget about that school?

Wow, I have no idea - what a horror story. Hard to know what the right thing to do is. Maybe a current student associated with the admissions process would be best placed to answer (leaving your name out of it unless they do want to hear the details).

Oh no! Try asking one of the admissions consultants on GC or maybe post it anonymously on Wharton's student run admissions forum and see what Victor suggests. Sounds like your interview was terribly unfair.

I like this idea.

In a traditional interview format where the interviewer has more flexibility, I'm not sure you'd be able to make much of a case to admissions even if it was entirely unfair. But given the behavioral interview format - when the interviewer didn't even ask you the questions, it seems like admissions would be more willing to hear your case. I wonder what the interviewer wrote down on his report.

Let us know how it goes.

I thought it was more like 40% of those interviewed were accepted.

I think you're right. It used to be that a higher percentage received interviews and a lower percentage were accepted post interview. From what I can tell now (mostly from sources cited in this thread and last year's thread) the breakdown last year was about 40/40. I don't have a reason to think it would be different this year.

According to P&Q it was 43% last year

Gents,

Just had my interview with an alum and no behavioral questions at all.
Kind of scorn for my preparation of those questions... I'm even thinking about requesting a second interview )))
Who is in the same boat with me?

Hi - I had an interview on Sunday. Lots of questions, only one or two behavioral ones. If anyone gets an official response from the Wharton blog as to whether that's normal, please let me know!

Do you think interviews are a great differentiator, or rather apps are still reviewed and compared afterwards and rated on the overall submission. I didn't feel like I shone at my best; now that there's nothing to do, I'm getting really impatient!

Wohooo done with Wharton & Lauder - really great interview style on both and I found that both 2nd years tried hard to establish a strong rapport.

Wharton
-Started with resume walk through
-Then Why Wharton / Why MBA (Erm I forgot to talk of my career goal - what a fail)
-Tell me about a time --- disagreement on ideas
-Tell me about a time --- team lead project to success/something
-Tell me about a time --- Persuade / convince
--Questions

Lauder
-Resume walkthrough
-International experiences
-Why lauder / mba / career stuff - mine was a hodgepodge of stuff since I was following visual cues and a general long conversation that encompassed why lauder, mba, career goals and all....
-What have you done to learn of program etc..
then it just evolved into a great casual conversation and I felt like I was in already... (I wish)

Anyhow, Wharton I was decent, Lauder was great...
Let's see how it all plans out

Thanks to previous posters and good luck to all

Was your interview on campus, or with an alumni? Seems like on-campus interviews are all consistent in format, but alumni interviews are a little bit of everything...

With alumni... makes sense then.

I don't think the interview is the final differentiator. I was a round one applicant to W and was accepted despite my interview experience being a complete nightmare. I did a Hub interview and was asked the 3 standard questions. The interviewer interrupted me several times while answering one of the questions to say that I wasn't really answering the question. I had to explain that I was getting to the point. It was so bad that at one point, I had to ask if I could re-do that question over. The whole interview took only 15 minutes and in the end, the interviewer didn't seem enthusiastic about answering my questions. So for those who had terrible interviews, don't give up. I think the adcom does review the apps one more time after the interview so continue to reiterate your interest in the school after your interview. Goodluck all and looking forward to being your classmates!
