Same. I imagine its location dependent. You get the email if you're in XX miles of one of the meet and greets

Essay 4. But then my other essays also had such stories weaved into it. Considering W is asking situation based prompts there is ample scope in almost all essays

Wharton was the first app I put together and it really took me a lot of time...the good thing is that after W, the rest of the apps look easier!

I used the failure one to discuss leadership...

For what is worth, I did not use the word leader or leadership to refer to myself in any of the essays. I did used them though to refer to jobs/activities that offered more leaderhip opportunities as well as in describing the skills which I would refine if attended Wharton.

In every essay I did use experiences that best reflect how I think and act, but rarely used adjectives to refer to myself. I guess it all goes back to the "show" rather than "tell" principle.

Hope my input is of some use.

As a Lauder applicant you must write 6 essays for a total of 5,000 words. What was especially challenging for me, was writing 2,000 words for "why Wharton?" and "Why Lauder?" without allowing for too much overlap or just writing for writing's sake.

Time allowing, it is better to work on the essays and then take a break for a few days. You might find yourself reading a book or washing your teeth when suddenly you have that "aha!" moment that brings with it a relevant anecdote from your past or the words you've been searching for to convey an idea.

I guess the conclusion is that applying to b-school is hard, sometimes frustratingly so...

I agree. Wharton's application (the data forms) are by far the most extensive and time consuming, but for whatever reason, I got into a great writing groove on that application and wrote three essays in one day. I'm now struggling through Kellogg's application and I feel like all of their questions are a general - tell me about you - question versus being very pointed. I wish this was similar to the law school process where you write a personal statement that's used for all schools.

I wish b-schools would start using the system that's used by law schools. Everything's stored in a central repository, so there's no need for recommenders to fill out separate recommendation forms, there's only one personal statement per school, and the application fee's only 50 bucks.
